That's what I was thinking. More likely he just has some kind of mental illness.

Over thousand rounds I played, this happened just twice, 2nd one happening today.   Both times, I was quite amused and a bit bothered, hence, this post.   This is what happened.  We got paired with a single (both times).   Things go well, and by the end of the round, we are in friendly chatting term.   Then, the single plays his approach shot, drives to the green first, and goes home without saying goodbye or shaking hands.   We arrive at the 18th green and looking around for the single player.   His ball is still on green but the guy's driving away from parking lot.

Did this happen to you?   What do you think about it?  I think it's just rude, or self centered at the least.

Do you do this?  If so, why?

It hasn't happened to me. but the fact that he left his ball probably means he's in a hurry to get somewhere. Maybe a doctor or something?

My guess at the time was that he sneaked into #1 to play a freebie round.   At hole #18, there were a couple of marshals goofing around.  He needed to bypass them.  My other guess was, he didn't pay for the round and didn't want to get questioned.

Yeah, that is the first thing I thought of.  I played with a single once who openly stated he had "snuck on", and he skipped the 18th hole to avoid the clubhouse folks.

My bet is the guy was just the rude sort that only thought of himself when he took off without shaking hands.  I know things like that can get annoying but don't let it bother you too much.

You know what they say, "People are strange."

Maybe he crapped himself? LOL. I'm new here so don't mind me. Just throwing it out there.

No worries. I though a similar thing. He had to go REAL BAD!

I knew this would turned into a funny thread.   Good replies ... I've got a few laughs out the replies.   I like the "crappy" answers ... :-D
