Or it could expose more flaws in Bernie and Trump. That is the problem with debates, they can help and hurt.

Very true.  Seems Trump has backed off on the debate with Bernie.  I saw today he was setting a goal of raising $10M for women's charities and services in order for him to accept the debate, which gives him the out.

This is where Bernie is so smart. He knows Trump feels the same way as him about the process and now Bernie is going to get himself awesome free press. Bernie has to have a strong performance and show he can go toe to toe with Trump. Hillary's arrogance will be her undoing as she feels she should be the nominee/president because her last name is Clinton. This could be the key to the most massive upset/come from behind victory ever.

You under estimate Bernie, it is Trump who has to go toe to toe with Bernie.
Trump has to show he can debate policy and not just call someone a "dirty hippie socialist"

"she feels she should...." is completely anecdotal!!!

Right, Hillary likely wins a Trump-Bernie debate just by staying on the sidelines.

Trump hasn't batted an eye at Sanders throughout this campaign, so I don't know if he has a "death by character assassination" strategy for him, as he had for all of his GOP primary challengers. Even if he does, the damage would be immaterial, as Bernie almost certainly will not be the Democratic nominee. Putting the two in the same room together would also put to rest any of the right's wishful thinking that Sanders supporters will flock to Trump en masse.

I don't think "death by character assassination" strategy works on Bernie. The Republican & to lesser extent the other Democratic presidential candidates were all trying to show you that they could be "this" type of candidate or "that" kind of candidate. This is why they show up to ranches in blue jeans and tucked in flannels. This is why they try riding the subway. This is why they are in Indiana referring to "basketball rings".
The great thing about Bernie is he has been "Bernie" this entire time. He is telling you what he believes and not flip-flopping to get your vote.

Taking shots at his character wont bother Bernie. He has walked the walk and has stayed true to his beliefs. None of the other candidates can say the same thing.

He is trying to save face while backing out. Once again Trump opens his mouth with out thinking this through. he says he will do something, then is told he has the most to lose and then backs out!

Speaking of character assasination. Once again Trump Speaks without thinking it through and without having his facts straight.

Trump and Bernie have nothing to lose by debating each other. It would be a massively popular event that gets both of them in front of a large audience. It marginalizes Hillary and makes her look weak and left out. Both the Trump and Bernie bases are very energized, the debate would be high energy.

It gets Trump directly in front of Bernie supporters where he will gladly cede the spotlight to Bernie and not attack him head on, he gains nothing by attacking Bernie. If they get $10m for women's health then he can show his ability to get things done.

Bernie gets massive attention and looks like the presumptive DNC nominee debating the GOP nominee. Even if he still loses to Hillary he looks like a shoe-in to replace her when she is indicted after her poll numbers tank.

Not a good week for the Dems.

1.  Hill and Huma called out by State for hindering their investigation.

2.  McCauliffe now under FBI investigation

3.  Wasserman-Schultz about to be shit-canned

4.  Guccifer made a deal with Justice to help them in future investigations.

5.  Trump closing in according to polls

Fun times.

Wasserman-Schultz should have been shit-canned a long time ago for throwing shade on the Sanders campaign. Shit-canning Wasserman-Schultz is a good thing. Putting the early Democratic debates at times when no one was watching was an idiot move. It showed lack of media savvy. No publicity is bad publicity. She was trying to protect Clinton by keeping Sanders unknown. And now Clinton is dodging a debate with Sanders prior to the California primary where she could have free air time to bash Trump and she's not taking it. That is stupid. Even if it gave Sanders an opportunity to go after her, she could still ignore him and go after Trump. She's supposed to be the nominee, right? She's supposed to have it sewed up, right? Clinton does not know how to use the media. She's like Nixon in 1960.

But here's the thing - Bernie fills a stadium in Sacramento to over capacity for a rally - it gets no coverage. Hillary holds a rally in the Hispanic Community in LA where a few hundred people show up and it gets coverage in the mainstream media. Trump says something outlandish and he gets hours of free media coverage. This stuff is baffling. Giant corporations own the media and are choosing who gets elected.

If Bernie wins the proposed debate with Trump, it'll give him momentum going into the primaries on June 7.... a lot of momentum. Even if he is not leading in the delegate count in the end, if he can close the gap to under 100 pledged delegates due to the way they're allocated and pull off a stunning upset in CA say 60-40, it will be an open convention in July. And if Clinton keeps slipping in the polls, we'll see the super delegates start having second thoughts about Clinton.

It ain't over till it's over.

The problem is that if it's a Sanders nomination we won't hear anything about him on mainstream media during the fall. They'll ignore him. It'll be all Trump.

Corporate partnership with government.

I agree with you on Debbie Downer.  Really what I meant to preface the post with was "Bad week for Hillary." Every one of those items strike at her core; now add the Trump-Sanders debate and the mainstream press turning on her and she's in a world of hurt.

I don't agree with you on her decision to forego the debate, she had absolutely nothing to gain and essentially has the nomination wrapped up.

I find Bernie to be a loon but he is passionate and the first democrat to ever be honest with the people about how he wants to transform the country.  I don't think we're ready for socialism yet but the populace is trending that way as the indoctrination has been underway for 50 years now.  Let's hope we can reject it for another 50 years.

I fully expect Trump to avoid any serious debates - the GOP clown car debates don't count - like the plague. His ignorance will be exposed and that just might get even the sheepiest of sheep to realize that he is an empty windbag. The good Lord willing...

Sounds like you had a tough week, didn't quite achieve the mediocrity your union demands from you.  So, you focus your ire on a country to which you don't belong.  Classy.

Focus on your own socialist PM who likes to beat up opposition women in Parliament.  That will serve you better in the long run.

Just curious, why post this here and not the Memorial Day thread?  What's your take on how this video relates to the race?

Maybe it's a reminder there are more important things to do this weekend beside bicker about politics. Though it's tough not to given the low quality of the choices.

Recently the only thing I find more strange than a Trump comment is seemingly reasonable republicans defending him. He is so out of step with traditional ideals people should be running.

Im not voting this year. The vote for is a vote against mentality doesn't work for me. If there was ever a year to take off partisan blinders this is it. Things could be worse than they are now.

To some degree you're correct, Trump doesn't represent traditional Republicans well but he's a much better option for us than Hillary or Bernie.  I'd vote for Obama or GW before I'd vote for Hillary or Bernie.

But is he better because he's not them or because he actually has what it takes to be POTUS? I don't fear Trump policy I fear Trump's inexperience and his character flaws. So far anyone in politics that has spoke out against him has been called names. He doesn't have answers only insults. If what Fox News says is true that HRC is Obama 2.0 that seems less scary to me than a guy that so far has dominated the media not with promise of change but with insults like Little Marco and Pocahontas.

This year is different and I hope this resonates. A vote for Trump isn't a republican vote it's just a vote for Trump. It should be evident he only has one concern and that is himself. His make America great again shit is nothing more than poison Kool Aid. Voters should be wary of letting him three-card Monte his way into the WH. He has the potential to do considerable damage to our country.

Be honest if he was a democrat and behaving as he is now you'd be running away and fast. The criticisms Rubio and Bush threw at him weren't wrong he isn't what he wants people to believe he is.

Cool, just wondering.

On the topic of the race, I'm hoping it doesn't come up at my 5 year-old's birthday party today.  It's funny how everyone can be getting along great until that stuff comes up.  I enjoy discussing politics with people who I know will not get upset, but some people feel the need to hurl insults or take things personally so I try to avoid it at large gatherings.
