My favorite part:

"Woods has retreated to his $60 million compound on Jupiter Island, Fla., a dream house he designed with Elin Nordegren but now inhabits mostly alone after their tabloid divorce in 2010. By his own admission he kills much of the day playing video games."

It's equal parts sad (divorced, and alone in a huge house playing video games) and AWESOME (rich as hell, plays video games all day, was married to a supermodel).

Or he can do a reverse Michael Jackson when the kids are at their mom's place and invite supermodels to spend the night ... no touching, of course... lol.

I really enjoyed that article. Put much into perspective. Sad though is something I don't for him.

It's pretty amazing that Tiger would actually acknowledge that he spends "much of the day" playing video games. That's pretty sad. I've never been a fan of his, but I almost feel sorry for the guy. I'm of the opinion that he will likely play competitive golf again, but what if it turns out that he doesn't? Earl would be spinning in his grave if that happened.

I think that's during his recovery periods. I don't think he plays many video games when he's practicing full bore AND taking care of his kids.

Also, Earl predicted Tiger would win 14 majors. Bobby Jones' mark was 13, IIRC. 14 was Nicklaus's original goal, too.

I'm a bit disappointed in the article.  If you happen to be an obsessed Tiger Woods Fan Boy (guilty), there is really nothing new in the article.  Shipnuck lazily repeated stories have have all previously been told and are relatively well known.

The psycho babble is all interesting and makes for a nice narrative, but the story was really short on detail about his horrific injury history, and what that has meant for his practice time.  A good reporter should be able to dig around and get some more insight on this stuff.

What else is he supposed to do when he can barely move?  At least video games can keep his mind sharp and help with hand-eye coordination.

Tiger's swing was so aggressive and powerful, it worked well, but wasn't really designed for longevity. You look at guys like Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus - those guys won major after 40 years old. Their swings, while considered wild, puts lets stress on the back. It's a more fluid natural movement I think.

Recovery periods or not, what's a 40-year-old father of two doing, by his own admission, "killing much of the day playing video games"? If your next-door neighbor was doing the same thing, you'd be calling him a loser. Guess it's all in your perception, huh?

My next door neighbor isn't worth half a billion dollars and recovering from back surgery which requires rest and little activity. What, should he get a job telemarketing to pass the time? :-P

What should he be doing instead?

I've gone through serious back issues -- 2 herniated discs.  Sitting is miserable, standing only barely tolerable.

I don't think Tiger is in that much pain right now. There is a recent twitter post with him practicing his swing on his home simulator.

I dont pay much attention to media articles about Woods. As private as Woods is, and how he has led the media on wild goose chases before, it is just hard for me give any credibility to published reports.

If he returns to the pro ranks...great. If he doesn't, it was fun watching him while he was in top form.

Let's hope you never have to deal with a back problem.
