2016 NFL Draft

As an Eagles fan, I am not 100% on board with the move the Birds made to move up and get the second pick in the draft. It is obvious that they will take a QB, preferably Carson Wentz, but I don't think they completely thought through what this means for Sam Bradford. They just paid him a lot of money but this move says to him that he is never going to be a long term solution and that he is just holding the job temporarily until Wentz is ready. The guy has already had a different offensive coordinator every single year he has played and I am sure he re-signed with the Birds looking for some stability. Bradford has already said that he would prefer to be traded but that will wreck the Eagles salary cap for 2016. As I said, not thought through.

I am not sure that either one of the top two QB's (Goff and Wentz) are going to make it. I would have been OK with going with Bradford and drafting another QB later in the draft for development and use all the other picks in the next couple of years to build around the QB's.

Yes, but we long suffering Browns fans thank you for it! It remains to be seen what our new front office will do with this bounty. If they can get even half the picks right it will be a bonanza! With the picks they gave up, you might think the Eagles were going to make a Super Bowl run this year. Yeah, like I should talk! We've never even been there!

Or they plan to trade Bradford if they get the QB they want.  The Jets and Broncos, as well as a few other teams who just don't realize it yet, need a starting QB.

As a Giants fan but also a fan of the game, I don't know why the Rams/Eagles would make these trades to take Goff or Wentz. Now I don't really watch either team in depth too much but I don't know why they would give up so much to get a QB that doesn't jump out to me as being elite. If I were either team, I would wait until a QB shows up in future drafts that people know is going to be good (Andrew Luck) and take him instead, but that's just me. As for my boys, I think they should take Treadwell. As we saw towards the end of last year when Jennings gets the majority of the carries, he produces, so we don't need a back like Elliot, as good as he is. While there are still some holes at linebacker, the defense improved over the offseason so while it is still a need, it is not a glaring need. Same with offensive line. D-line, I think they are fine. By taking Treadwell, that takes a ton of pressure off of force-feeding ODB every pass. Cruz is also a Giant (that's punny) question mark with his injury history, so you can't rely on him to be a #2. Those three together with Harris and Will Tye make up a very intimidating offense. Second round they should take Karl Joseph - he looked really good before he got hurt, and they clearly need a free safety to complement Collins.

Broncos are in a tight cap issue. I'm not sure they could afford Bradford's cap hit. I do agree they need an upgrade from Sanchez.

The Eagles would have to take the brunt of the cap hit this season if they traded Bradford. I think he would fit well into Denver's cap situation.

The guy can throw the ball upwards of 60+ mph. His measured throw in the sports science lab would have broken the combine throwing record. His arm strength is such that he can throw from his knees faster than the average QB throws on their hard throws. He also ranked better on accuracy on short passes than Blake Bortels who went overall #3 in 2014. 

I think this guy is going to be a steal for someone late in the draft. He'll go in the 4th or 5th round. Sit him for 3 years and see if he can learn and NFL playbook.

I think JaMarcus Russell would have been better served drafted in the 4-5th round. Yet Oakland took him #1 overall in the draft. 

Cardale isn't getting above the 3rd round in the draft. No one will take that much of a risk on him.

Damn Jerry Jones to hell.  A frickn RB with the 4th pick??  I know Garrett wanted Ramsey, a far more practical option.  Looks like year 21 without a Super Bowl.

Elliot is a great pick. He's not just the top RB in the draft. He's also an amazing pass blocker. That would be very helpful for Romo ;).  He also have WR level hands in catching the ball. He does all the little things. He gives you 100% on each play even without the ball. He's also a perfect fit for Dallas's zone blocking scheme, which is very similar to what OSU runs. He's an every down back that will give you much more than just running the ball. He'll be productive from day one. 

Ramsey didn't seem to be 100% on each down. His press coverage is lacking. He has a lot of work to do before he can be compared as one of the elite lock down corners. Also, he only has 3 INT over the last three seasons. For a CB you want a ball hawk. You want a game changer. He might someday turn into a top lock down guy, but I don't think he's worth a top 10 pick for hoping he'll become that top 10 CB 3 years from now. 

If Dallas thought he was overrated and went with the best player they thought was available and it fits a need for them then it's a good pick.

Well, that does make me feel a little better.  I'm just typically opposed to drafting a RB in the 1st round.  I'll withhold judgement til the season starts (although I did already damn the old man to hell).

They need DE, CB, QB, and RB. I could see they were waiting for Bosa to drop and if not then they go with Elliot. It might be they have a list of CB's they like that would fall to them later in the draft. I'm not sure CB's in the first round work out any better than RB's. 

If they think Elliot is a top 10 talent then go with it. If not then trade down.

As an Eagles fan, that was my biggest fear. Elliot will really help the Cowboys, in multiple ways. The running behind that line is obvious, but he is an excellent pass catcher and his blocking ability will help Romo immensely. They are now my favorites to win the division. Yuk.

This was obviously a long time ago, but wonder whether you might be rethinking your original response? 

Great season for you guys though - must be excited about the playoffs!
