Jason Day looks confused on the course right now. Wonder if he kinda took it for granted? Sand trouble, chunking chips, errant approach shots...

He'll **** it all up soon enough. I'll bet my cat.

Day and McIlroy not having a good tournament thus far.

Very possible, but I hope not. Would like to see him win one of these. Rory played far too conservative this 1st round and it bit him hard in the ass.

Eventually I think he'll break through. Heck, he was one shot away just a year ago. If he gets a better break and that ball doesn't stick on top of that hill, it prolly ends up closer than his birdie putt eventually did.

Looks like they're confident that they can at least get today's afternoon wake started today and be all caught up come Sunday.

Awesome, thanks.  Looks like my assumptions were correct.  Dunno why that info wasn't in the app, I just figured it hadn't been determined.  Google is my friend, even though they are in Obama's pocket.  Wait, did I type that or just think it?

LOL.  I also think my typo is very appropriate for a US Open.  A lot of guys are probably going to "die" out there this afternoon.

That was cool- Day's caddie came over and cleaned Scott's ball for him after he putted from the fringe after his long bunker shot. Polished right up for a tap-in. Good sportsmanship, it looked like.

Not to be a party pooper, but this is and has been the norm anytime a guy comes out of a bunker.  His caddy is going to be grooming that thing for several minutes to prep it for the next poor soul so they toss their ball to the other guys caddy instead.:-D

Spieth moving up the leaderboard.  Ended his round at #51, now up to #40.  So, appears the course is playing tough, notwithstanding the soft conditions.

As it continues to dry out today, I suspect this wave's 2nd round scores will be higher than their morning scores.  Here's hoping for a huge wind storm this afternoon.

Yeah if you look at the scores here and after Merion in 2013, they're very similar after the first round. Maybe a little bit easier than Merion. But they had a big rain storm on Thursday there and had to play catch up to and everyone thought it was gonna be a birdie fest on a soft course. Like I said the other day, the first two days will surrender some red but by the weekend it will all come back to Even. Still think Even Par is gonna be the winning score on Sunday unless someone gets really hot and runs away from field.

Love to see guys like DJ and Sergio play well. Wouldn't say anything is out of it yet and agree that around even par will have a shot come Sunday.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

Is fox showing any us open replays? Anything for the working stiffs to watch when they get home? I can't find anything.

They didn't yesterday, because of the Copa America, but I noticed while watching the USA-Ecuador game last night that this evening's quarterfinal matches are airing on FX, so I'd check FS1's listings.

There's not many things I like on Fox, but I do like Ken Brown. Seems like a goofy and funny guy and good guy you would love to hang out with and talk to. Hopefully NBC or CBS notices him and picks him up so he gets to cover more events.

Agreed.

Azinger drives me nuts because all he does is talk about when he played and acts like buddy buddy with all of them. We get it, you know all of them and were pretty good back in the day. Johnny Miller also knows all of them and was better than you back in the day, but doesn't constantly talk about it.

Strange is the same way. I hate whenever they used to play the Open at St. Andrews and he would brag about the 62 he shot there at the Dunhill....over and over again. I don't mind Azinger as much. He's better than Norman was last year. He has his weaknesses, but when you don't cover that many events, that's to be expected.

Nah, talks about himself instead.

Regular Fox network at 5 pm to 8 pm eastern time.  I don't know if that will be replay/highlights, or more of the live action.

I don't think the plan was for live action but given the circumstances, I'm pretty sure it will be.  Very much hoping so cuz that's what I have set to record.  May go to FS1 after that since they'll probably play til around 9ET.

Even Azinger is commenting about their camera crew: "Well now I'm dizzy. That was hard to watch." (Camera was trying to follow a tee shot)

    • I’ve recently started KBs too and really enjoy it. I have one day of armour building complex and one day of a mobility routine. Adding in a speed training day too.    which routines do you do @Elmer
    • Again, I’m not an expert so take it with a grain of salt My question is whether laying back even further becomes too conservative and that strategy is suboptimal as a result? Essentially what’s the cost of guaranteed longer second shot vs the x% risk for hitting the bunker? I think the optimal way to answer the question is looking at strokes gained, in consideration of the hazards and penalties, and picking the strategy that maximizes SG off the tee. I’ve seen some apps that do this but I’m not sure how accurate they are.   And again, asking all this so I can learn what I should be doing in these situations rather than questioning your approach Bill. I would give an example of the course I’m joining this year where I plan to aim at the bunker, but I don’t want to take over your swing thread any further!
    • What @DeadMan said. From the satellite it looks like there's tall grass to the right, long of the fairway post-dog-leg. But left it just looks like regular rough all the way to the neighboring tee boxes. If that's true I'm aiming left edge of the green and bombs away every time, hoping for a 30-70 yard up and down opportunity.
    • What's the case against blasting a driver at the green? I'm guessing it puts the penalty area/fescue too much into play, but if that's just standard rough around the green, there would be a good case for it. If it's not driver, then I agree with your approach. The one thing I would add is to shade your aim towards the bunkers vs. center of the fairway. Hitting out of a bunker is (marginally) better than a penalty drop.
    • Yes, if you are gonna layup, then layup. No need to nickle and dime a few extra yards and bring bunker back into play.
