Today’s Session 8-12-20
GOALS: Same stuff from previous lesson
SETUP: Weaker grip, neutral shaft lean, ball forward
BACKSWING: Less away going back (lead shoulder down, trail hip up) with leaning tower after P2
DOWNSWING: Bow wrist to close face, go “up” with lead side so I don’t have too much shaft lean at impact
Not a great session. Ball striking felt ugly (flippy and fat)
Shaft lean at impact was ok. If you watch the video, my lead knee was bouncing around through impact again
I’ve been having trouble with a fade happening out of nowhere. This is probably why.
Shaft way to steep here. Not happy about it. Don’t know where this came from either. Ugh
I kind of don’t know which part of my swing to focus on at the moment.

Is that really an issue, do people really just walk up and offer you swing tips? I would never do such a thing, hell I hate helping people even when they ask. Literally, I have only had this happen once in my life, had a guy tell me I should keep my left arm straighter. I just told him as soon as he could beat me he could give me advice. He didn't say much after that.
To answer the OP I listen to Airpods while I am putting only. I can't stand to have them in when I am working full swing, I need to hear that contact.
As a 15 handicapper, I am clearly not an expert in the golf swing, I am however an engineer I I understand basic calculation of speed. Mike Malaska's conclusion from his demonstration are shakey at best.
The speed of the tip of that stick as it travels a circular path is directly proportional to the radius i.e the distance from the sternum, to the tip of the stick.
If it takes a quarter of a second for make a complete swing, it takes 0.125 seconds to go from top of backwing to impact. If you move your shoulders 90 degs in 0.125 seconds, and you are swinging a 45" driver with an arm length of 22" (total radius 67") your clubhead speed is going to be approx 95 mph.
If you stick the handle of the driver under your armpit so that 40" extends, the radius is going to be closer to 37" and for the same shoulder turn in the same time your clubhead speed is going to be about 52mph.
The speed difference at the tip of the speedstick when swung under the armpit vs when swung with fully extended arms is directly related to difference in distance between the tip of the speed stick and the sternum. His conclusion that the arms 'generate' speed is not supported by the results of his experiment.
Its the same reason that for the exact same swing the clubhead speed of a driver would be faster than that of a 7 iron
At least they're holding it. It may serve as a teaser for us for the 2021 Masters too -- although every year's does so for the next year's, this one more so.
I am planning my November around watching this event.
