I've been Playing Golf for: 9months
My current handicap index or average score is: 100-105
My typical ball flight is: Low
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Push left and slice

Really changed my swing recently after watching a lot of youtube videos. Thinking about some lessons soon.

I am concentrating on rotating left shoulder down and around, helps me to keep left arm straight on back swing and more consistently connect with the ball.

I am 6'4 and play with standard length clubs.

Can post my old swing if that would help

Welcome to the forum @Shark9! It would be best if you post your video to youtube and then add the link here to the site. This is the best way to get feedback quickly. Once its up I am sure we can offer some things to work on.

Thank you for posting to youtube. It makes it easier to see. I see a couple of things you can start working on right away. One is your posture. You don't have the weight properly balanced and therefore you need to bend you knees too much. I can see you are a tall guy so maybe you need a little more knee bend, but I think you are on the "too much" end of the spectrum. You will need to "re-balance throughout the swing to put yourself in proper positions.

The next piece is the start to the backswing. You are bringing the club too far inside which immediately causes the club to get behind you. Once it is behind you to get to the top and then you immediately come over the top get steep and hit a pull or slice depending on your face conditions. Also look at Robert's club face. It is more closed than yours (meaning the toe of his club is more in the direction of the ball, where yours is straight up in the air.) He also has the club in front of him.

Once at the top the club is pretty far behind your body and you must come over the top to get back to the ball. Immediate low pull or slice.

So my recommendation is to work on the posture.

And to start getting the club in front of you and more closed in the backswing.

That is fantastic just what I need.

Going to work on my posture, some nice examples of the greats in your link.

Will try keep my hands further forward in the takeaway like Robert and work on solving my over the top tendancies.

Hopefully when all these are fixed will be able to post some better scores and a new video.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been working a lot on my game, well my swing anyway we won't mention my putting and general short game.

taken on the advice of mchepp and this was some video from before my round today.

Straight and some of the best contact on the ball I have ever had at start of round. Then it went terrible at end of round, loads of really fat hits with the ball just moving 10 to yards ahead.

@Shark9 Glad to hear you are hitting it a little bit better. Your camera angles are lacking with these videos. The DTL version is a worm view and your head is cut off. The DTL is frankly useable. The FO is better but still not the best. You need to invest in some kind of tripod. Maybe a guerrilla version that can attach to your bag? Something to help you out.

From the FO view, you need to get some secondary axis tilt. Daniel the model has pushed his hips forward, only an inch or two, and then created a secondary axis tilt to help get the weight forward. You have very little 2ndary axis tilt and therefore you need to save it with your hands.

Here is a good thread on secondary axis tilt and getting your weight forward. Now that you have some of the basics the things you need to work on will get a little more complicated.

Hi guys, been working on the swing. Had a few lessons, playing once or twice a week and got down to a score of 20 over par (92 on a 72).

But still really struggling with inconsistency. Losing a lot of balls each round, have a bad miss when I come through the ball with a wide open club face and the ball screams straight right out of bounds. Did this on the first tee this week into someone's house...not good when the club pro and loads of people were watching. A dog was barking for the next few minutes :(

Any tips? saving up for some more lessons soon but they are expensive to get as much as I want.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
