Preferred Time for Stonewolf Outing

5 members have voted

  1. 1. What tee time option do you prefer?

    • 9:15 AM for $55
    • 12:15 PM for $40
    • Either one is fine with me.

Recommended Posts

Dear Archland crew,

I've contacted a couple of courses about a TST day on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Best offer seems to be my Nicklaus-sig home course, Stonewolf GC in Fairview Heights, IL. I told them TST would have 8-12 golfers. We have two options:

  1. Tee off about 9:15 AM, green fee = $55 (cart included)
  2. Tee off about 12:15 PM, green fee = $40 (cart included)

The 12:15 PM would be less costly, plus by then the sun would have dried out a couple of the shaded glens on the course. Sunset Sept. 10 is 7:15 PM, so daylight is not a problem.

Please let me know your preferences by Friday, Aug. 26. I'll explain payment plan once we decide.

Here's our short list.  @CoachB25; @Brian W, @Club Rat@teamroper60, @bshack,  @oiler69, @Tim Williamson, @kenstl, @Missouri Swede @rickd

@MissouriHacker. @saevel25 (traveling trophy?)

Other Archlanders can join in too!

Here is Stonewolf web site.

Amazingly, I'm not scheduled to work that weekend. Count me in. Either time works for me (included in the poll above).

I won't be able to attend.  When I am in season, it is almost impossible to do anything else but coach and teach.  Good luck to everyone.  I forgot to mention that my golf team is in a tournament on that date at The Woodlands in Alton.

Take care,

Darrell Butler

Coach, maybe you could give us an assessment of the Woodlands as a future site?

And, good luck at the tournament.

I like playing The Woodlands.  It has enough easy holes to make the average golfer enjoy their round and then it has a couple of holes that will bust your chops.

Fantastic, I will be there.  I put 9:15 just because it is easier but I would be attending either way.  Also, I think the weather is still better in the morning out there.

I do love this course!!

I would love to join the group.  I'd prefer 9:15, but will try to secure a kitchen pass for either time.

So who all is coming for sure?

As of now, we have @WUTiger, @Missouri Swede, @onkey and @Brian W.

Details of what I have arranged:

  • 18 Holes at Stonewolf GC, Fairview Heights, IL. on Sept. 10.
  • Two tee times, 9:15 AM and 9:24 AM.
  • Price = $55 a golfer (cart included); pay at the pro shop under Sand Trap group.
  • Course has a practice range and practice green right next to first tee, so you can warm up a little.

We can handle four more golfers (and could probably squeeze in a fifth or sixth). Anyone else interested? Hint:  @Club Rat@teamroper60, @bshack, @oiler69, @Tim Williamson, @kenstl, @rickd

@MissouriHacker. @saevel25

It should be fun: one of the few Sept. weekend's there's no large tournament. Ours of course is a major tournament, it's just not a large tournament.

Hi guys.  Saw this late as I haven't been on in a while.  If anyone else replies so that another foursome can be started, I can make it next weekend.  If not, have a great round!

I would hate to have anyone miss out.  Maybe we could do a 3 and 2 so we can all get out there?

Gentlemen,

I have two tee time slots (foursomes) reserved for us: 9:15 AM and 9:24 AM. |  We can do ... 3 + 2 or 3 + 3, up to 4 + 4.

The day's scheduling is fairly tight, so they might put a single or two with us to fill things out. Just pay green's fee when you get to the pro shop.

Maybe we could recruit the singles into TST!

@kenstl, come on down! And, I want to see your bag. I built a Maltby driver back in 2012, and visit Wishon's website about once a month.

If any others are coming, let me know...

@WUTiger, thanks for setting this up. Saturday can't come soon enough.  If the current forecast holds up, the weather should be fantastic.

Ya, I am really looking forward to this.  It will be my first time meeting anyone from the site!!

I do hope the weather holds as we are going to get some rain for a couple days.  It now looks like it will not rain at all on Saturday and hopefully we will get lucky and have it dry up a bit before then.  I just hate cart path only days

We're not walking??  :w00t:

(Kidding.  I always ride a cart the first time I play a course.)

Stonewolf was not designed to be walked--lots of undulation and a few long walks from green to tee.  But I haven't entirely ruled out the possibility of walking just yet.

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
    • Most the stuff I found on Instagram and just copy and mix it up. a few of my favorites: Clean>Squat>Press> March Around the body >catch >Squat> press I also hold a the kettle bell upside down with both hands on the handle. Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
