I've got two.  I've got my Nike VR TW v10 forged irons and I've also got some on the way!  They're another older set, Taylormade R9 TP Forged--they're a special release from Japan back in the day.  They look awesome to me.  Can't wait to play them.  If I hit them well, I may drop my gap wedge (sad because it's my hole-in-one club) and go 48-54-60 in the wedges (I think the PW in this set is 48*, but I'll check).  I'll have to retest my gapping.  I also thought about going after '09 Burner TP 3 and 4 irons to go with these clubs--they're also JDM limited release clubs.

2, maybe three.

My current set is the Callaway 2014 Apex MB.

My previous set, which I still have, is a set of Hogan Apex Edge Pros.

I think there's still a set of Hogan Apex PCs from the late 80s that I played as a kid somewhere in my parent's attic.  I hope so anyway.

Seems to be a recurring theme there, though I did play TaylorMade for a bit.

At home we have (mom, dad and me) +/- 5 sets put together.  My gamer is a set of TaylorMade RAC irons.  My previous set is a Dunlop rip on an Ernie Els set from the late 90's.  That has passed down to dad.  His old set is a Dunlop from 1986, which now sits as an emergency set at my folks place for whenever somebody drops by and needs it or if I visit and don't carry my own clubs.  Then, my mom has a half set (i forget the brand).  Over and above that we have a whole bunch of extra clubs that together would probably be enough to make a decent half to full set (i know of an SW, 1 iron, 6 iron and some woods).

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)
  • Golden Bear LD5.0 60* (regular)
  • Aidia Z-009 Putter
  • Inesis Soft 500 golf ball

I have multiple iron sets.  Some are legacies.  Most are either clubs I've used in the past or picked up at thrift stores or yard sales.  Here they are.

Callaway S2H2   5 thru SW

Orlimar Sf 302   4 thru PW

MacGregor PCB Tour   3 thru PW

Henning Aire-Link   5 thru SW

TaylorMade RAC HT   3 thru LW

Maltby TE Forged   3 thru GW

Maltby TU   4 thru GW

The list used to be longer but I gave the first set I assembled to a friend who is "thinking" about taking up the game and donated another (Square 2) to a kid's program at the local executive track.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

Thought I answered this thread before. Bullet point says no. If so this will be a n up date

I have three sets right now. My main gamers are Tour Edge Geomax 2s. (5-Lw) they are an old set, but play just as well for me as any of the new stuff I have tried. They are comfortable.

My next set is made up of Tour Edge Bazooka Ironwoods.  (2-LW) I played this setup many years ago. I had a 9.5 driver, these 12 irons, and a putter in the bag. I could hit the ball much farther back then. I still play this "iron bag" at least a  couple times a month. The 9.5 driver has been replaced with Tour Edge 12*,  2 wood. Golfers who don't know me usually give me their best  "wth" look when they see this make up.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend theses old Bazooka Ironwoods to any new golfer, if they could find a decent set. At the very least pick up a 6I or 7i and give one a try. Not sure, but these might have been one of the original hybrid clubs to hit the market 20+/- years ago. .

My third set are brand new Cobra King F7 one length irons. (5-PW) won these in a raffle a while back. Just haven't bother to use them that much. Hit a few 5, and 9 irons. I hit my old 5i Geomax 2 farther than the Cobra 5i. It's a little longer. Nice clubs. Look great. They are still boxed up. Just not sure what to do with them.

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Just two. My current set of Cobra F9 and my previous set of Hogan Edge. I recently threw out my first full set of irons - Palmer Classic that I bought in 1972. I tend to play a set for a long time. Almost 20 years on the Palmers and almost 30 on the Hogans. At that rate, I figure that the Cobras will far outlast me. People like me must be equipment manufacturers' worst nightmare! 😉

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
