The ones that frightened me was first tee excuses/being shocked at your play, I'm guilty of boh (e.g. telling people that Last time out I birdied the hoe I just got double par on). Until I saw these in the list I never really realized how much of a clichee they are and must be perceived as such by people I play with. That will now stop!

I have mixed experiences with unsolicited advice: I am normally very regicent with it (given how inconsistent my ownngame is), but I have had the odd occasion when I see someone making the same mistake again and again and a small bit of advice has helped them. I once played with a guy who stabbed at every pitch, with terriblle results. After a few holes I recommended he swing through the ball, and from then on in his pitching improved massively. He thanked me effusively and I felt it had probably been ok to offer that advice.

People walking on my putt line never really bothers me, since I figure the groups before probably walked all over that part of the green, and my playing partner is probably not any heavier than they were, Having said that, if the green is prone to spike marks (most of the greens around her are too hard for that), I appreciate it can make a difference.

Im not the perfect playing partner myself but man oh man, what a list!!! There are a bunch of things on that list that drive me bat $&!?. Im super ez to get along with but dont line up that six inch putt for 11 and yes poker chips belong in the man cave or the casino!!! Played with a guy who used those stupid things and  six times during the round I had to ask him to move the darn thing so I could putt and he kept looking at me like I was being rude or something by asking over and over. He finally understood when he rolled his over my marker and it went in for a par. I said "nice par, better my marker, than yours huh?"

Here's the thing: It's normal to ask someone to move a marker so you can putt. He would be well within his rights to ask you to move your marker when he was putting. He shouldn't have been peeved that he had to move his, but you shouldn't have been peeved that you had to ask for him to move it, because you should ask him to move it regardless of what he marks his ball with.

I'm guilty of #6. Hitting the cut that's cutting a little too much and using body english to guide it back onto the fairway. Talking to the ball.

#10 - I've had a few melt-downs. After landing a shot on a par 3 about 5 feet from the hole and four putting, I threw the ball into the water hazard. I had a melt-down in a bunker on the 9th hole where my second attempt at the bunker shot rolled into the other bunker and on my third try at escape I screwed up that shot and after beating the sand with my wedge picked up my ball and conceded the hole.

#22 - excessive practice swings - doesn't happen very often. I usually just step up and hit, which is why we finished our round in 3:25. This was a leisurely pace because we had an open course behind us. We also had an open course in front of us and caught a group in front on the back 9. Usually I do this around the green when my short game starts giving me fits - i.e. I'm not getting my weight forward enough and forgetting the fundamentals of it. - 3 to 5 practice swings and then f*** up the shot anyway. Then I take out my putter and just putt it onto the green. My worst putt is better than my best chip - sometimes. But when that flop shot is working....

#27 Counting on my fingers - so what. I'm bad at math. I'll do that while you're putting. See the fact that we finish in under 4 hrs at a leisurely pace. I'm retired. I don't play during peak hours because I like to play at a leisurely pace. And I don't play on weekends because the course is crowded. So :-P

My playing partners tell me I'm entertaining and fun to play with. They call me a "power hitter". Power my ***. The 71 year old woman in the group who says that drives the ball only 10 yds shorter than I do. She's been playing only 3 years. I've told her I'm going to have her pee in a cup.

Rereading the list I have to say No 11 is number 1 on my list. I used to love playing the game and carrying my own bag, I think it helps with staying loose between shots, finding shots off-track, and getting to your ball and being ready to hit. Too many times I've seen cart play where the players are 5 yards or 50+ yards from each other and player B has to wait until player A has hit his shot before he even begins his shot routine; checking yardage, traps/water hazards, lie, blah, blah, blah.
Get ready to hit your ball when it is your turn...this game can easily be played in under 4 hours (unless it is one of "those" courses, don't even get me started about that). I hate overly unnecessary slow play; one of my best friends (who struggles to break 110) is painfully slow, he takes 8-10 practice swings and if it isn't right or he changes clubs he starts all over. I like him, but we rarely play anymore because I just can't really stand it very often.

At 58, overweight with some minor knee and ankle issues, sadly if I'm not playing 9 then I'm in a cart. I relish the memories of my caddy days, or playing 36 in a day - but I looking forward to walking 18 this year or next when I get up to play "The Loop" which is a walking course, so I'll have a caddy.

Players play, tough players win!

I hate the guy with the high speed cart who races to his ball that is 30 yards in front of mine. And then he sits in his cart between me and the green. And waits for me to hit my shot over him.

Maybe I'm just a little more tolerant than most people because I'm just thankful to be playing golf and not sitting in class, but lots of this stuff doesn't bother me. The slow play (and things that result in slow play, like going Jim Furyk on shots to top it 10 yards down the fairway) are the only things that really get at me. I'm guilty of talking to my ball here and there, and I have a PING poker chip that I got at the HQ in AZ that I've used on a couple of rounds to be fun (but I move it if asked, of course).

Hopefully I don't come off as annoying to others. :/

But really, though, I'm just glad to be out on the course. As I tell playing partners, "I may suck today, but I promise I'll suck quickly. :-D "

We all have bad habits.  I am guilty of a few myself.  The following bad habits are easy to break: fix your divots, fix your ball marks, don't leave cigar/cigarette butts/sunflower seeds on green, don't hit into front group even if they are slow, ...

To me, the most irritating habit is slow play.   I wind up getting to my shot and playing too fast, because I can't get the group behind us out of my mind, and I am trying to make up for my playing partners' slow play by playing faster.

I am guilty of one thing, and that is, too much commentary and advice.   I get irritated when guys I play with regularly don't make any effort to get better and at the same time they get mad at a bad shot.  Sometimes I just can't resist the urge to give them my opinion on how to swing the club a little better.  I have to stop doing that.  The absolute worst time to talk to someone is when they are already angry.  But anyway, that's my worst habit: giving people advice.

I am guilty of channeling the judge from Caddyshack when I am using a foot wedge to get out of the weeds or woods and into the rough. I still think it's funny.

They forgot the guy who is never happy unless he comes out of the weeds with at least one or two balls, if he is not going to find his.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
