Do you have proof of this?

Of course not, it's ridiculous.

A good buddy is a defense attorney....I know, I know, I should pick my friends better...  When I off-handedly mentioned this to him he laughed, and said he only wished.  He'd never lose a DD case.  The first two things every attorney requests, in every case, is the latest calibration report for the machine used, and the record of certification and training for the person who operated it.  Any possible discrepancy or departure from strict standards generally results in an immediate dismissal.  That whole reasonable doubt thing...

There just might be a bit of a difference between good ole Hicktown, OH and your fine judicial system there in Florida. These guys do what they want out here.

Nope, My Uncle, who lives  in Ohio, got the radar thrown out for a speeding ticket.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/06/us/traffic-deaths-up-more-than-10-percent-in-first-half-of-2016.html?_r=0

Traffic deaths in the United States rose 10.4 percent in the first half of this year compared with the same period in 2015, maintaining a steady climb.

Officials have not identified a specific cause for the most recent increase.

This is on top of an increase from 2014 to 2015 fatalities.

The Nation lost 35,092 people in crashes on U.S. roadways during 2015, an increase from 32,744 in 2014 (https://crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api/Public/ViewPublication/812318)

So whatever we are doing isn't working.  Again, we focus so much on DUI's, unfortunately bad driving occurs everywhere.  There are far too many bad drivers regardless if they are impaired or not, along with a host of other factors.  You have tired drivers, poorly lit intersections/roads, poor designed roads, short yellow lights (causing red light running), fatalities at dusk and dawn (or anytime when visibility is poor), terrible weather, speeding, texting, eating, doing their hair, shaving, reading a book/newspaper, talking to passengers, etc.   Being killed in an accident involving any of these are just as tragic as someone who is killed by an impaired driver, IMO.  But everyone assumes that without the impairment, there would be no crash but logically some of the same factors that cause non-impaired people to crash (and cause fatalities) would also be the same for an impaired-driver, otherwise we should have any non-impaired fatalities. And then on top of that, I'll see if  can find the statistic somewhere, but I think 50% of all alcohol-impaired fatalities are single car crashes.  And Ii think that they include pedestrians in the alcohol-impaired fatalities (even if they are the one that caused it). E.G. You drive down the road, drunk person steps out into the road, you kill them, it is an alcohol-impaired event.

  • In 2014, over 1.1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.3 That's one percent of the 121 million self-reported episodes of alcohol-impaired driving among U.S. adults each year.4

I'm amazed there aren't more deaths on the road and I will venture to say that 121 million self-reported is low.  And I don't have the answers, but I know that stronger DUI laws will not solve the problem, only make criminals out of mostly normal people.

But no one wants to talk about anything but texting and DUI's because those (like being tough on crime) are easy to get the public behind, as who doesn't want drunks off the road (whether you're impaired or not as long as you over 0.08) and who doesn't want to stop people from texting.

Well then. Your uncle then is surely proof positive that the system works. Boy am I relieved.

I think if your drunk you shouldn't be allowed to drive at all.  Go with the 3 wood.

5 wood. I can't hit a 3W off the deck very well sober.

hmm . .Yes and No.

Yes . .because I actually do think the legal limit in the US is too strict all year .. but NO . .because, unfortunately, we have to have that limit because too many people have no common sense.  We live in a "Lowest Common Denominator" world.  If the law is not targeted towards the biggest fool . . then that big fool will make you sorry it isn't, lol.   Too bad the rest of us have to suffer.

    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
    • At a basic level, you can take those strokes gained numbers and if you know what the baseline strokes to hole out is from each distance, you can figure out how many strokes on average you will take to hole out from any given spot on the golf course. Then you can take that shot zone thing from shotscope and put it down there and see what the average is for each club and each target you choose. That's not exactly trivial to do though even with a computer, so the strategy guides (like LSW) use rules of thumb to make those decisions easier for you to make on the fly. Most of the time you'll come up with the optimal strategy and on the odd occasion when you don't, the strategy you come up with will be pretty darn close to optimal. If you're anything like me, then you'll probably wind up being a little too conservative with both club choice and target. Fear of penalty strokes can make you play suboptimally. Basically it's a bad idea to base your strategy on a shot that might pop up less than 1 in 20 times. If you happen to hit that shot, then today just isn't your day, but the 19 times you don't, you'll be in that much better of a spot.
    • That sounds like a small sample size issue. What if the PGA tour event he was trying to get into just happened to fit his game perfectly? Also, he could just be playing hot right now. I’ll put this in the wait-and-see category.
    • I've used a construction laser for years. Far less expensive than the PuttAim laser.
