Not getting arm extension after impact

I've found this drill to be helpful:

I've been doing this recently to try to stop from bending that left arm in the backswing. And found it helps lots of other things as well. Instead of feeling I'm pulling the club with my left hand, I feel I'm pushing down towards the ball, which seems to get me into a better impact position and makes extension on the follow through come more naturally.

The drill above is very similar to the drill my Evolvr instructor, Stephan, posted in the thread below. Same concept with a little different feel, pushing your right palm down on your left thumb. 

What is interesting about Martin Hall's advice, is his swing flips a bit. Below he is at A8. His arms aren't as extended after impact because he really didn't get his weight forward enough in the downswing and his shoulder turn kind of stops. A lot of we older folks have shoulder flexibility issues in the follow through. Just watch Jack Nicklaus swing now. He makes great contact, but can't finished like he used to. Working on shoulder and hip flexibility and getting weight forward at impact will help.

Good point. I've seen quite a bit of instruction that advises that, at the initiation of the downswing, the golfer should feel the right hand and arm pushing outward against the left hand and arm. I suppose that this is their "feel" for keeping extension in the swing.

Re-reading these posts it also occurred to me that I have also seen a lot of instruction that advises that it's not the worst thing in the world to let your left arm bend during the backswing. Especially for older players who have lost some flexibility. Heck, we've all seen pros who do this.

The killer is letting your elbows get farther apart at impact! Not only does this produce all manner of goofy shots, it looks awkward as hell on video! And it's usually accompanied by other swing faults, like improper weight shift. But then one is left to wonder what came first, the chicken or the egg?

Yep, look at the video I just posted on my swing thread and you see me doing just that at the beginning of the lesson.

the rope trick above, not unlike drills  you can do with the training aid called S.A.M.I. which is nothing more than a string on a retractable badge holder clip thing. Never tried though, so can not comment on effectiveness, but watching their video it looks helpful.
