Let's hear it!? What's on your Christmas (golf) wish list this year?

If you don't celebrate Christmas, sub out that word with "holiday" or whatever else that makes sense, even if that word is "December" or "end of the year"?

I need a Ping G 3 wood, currently have Titleist and it feels different than the rest of my irons and driver.  I assume I'd get better consistency with all Ping products at this point.

I already got my Mizuno MP 67's a lil earlier in the year so I am asking Santa for some Mizuno wedges.  I think a 52 & 58 will do.  Looking to find some quality older ones.  I dont really like the 2 or 3 new models out this year, the MP T5, S5 or T7.  What is with the anodized blue this year???

Looking for MP T or MP T11 or MP T12.

I need a simple putting mat to practice during the winter indoors with consistently starting my putting on-line. This hasn't been too much of a problem for me but I think it would be good to use during the winter. Most of my problem is speed control. I'm thinking the SKLZ mat with ball return for my office. That has SOME speed control element.

I'm good on clubs, bag, cart, and everything else :)

1. I want some fleece lined ski pants, or something similar, to play or hit balls in the cold. Not anything real bulky, I don't want to look like I am wearing a diaper under my pants... If anybody has any ideas, where to get this, that is #1 on my Christmas golf list.

2. A couple of truly free afternoons from my duties at home, so I can just relax and play 18 (I never have enough time to play 18)

3. More Volvik Vivids (Green)

The only product in my bag that is due for a replacement soon is going to be my rangefinder (readout is missing some lines half the time) so I will get one of those soon.  Otherwise, boring "accessory" type stuff; balls (Snell MyTour, Callaway Chrome Soft, and Titleist Prov1, the latter for $39.99/dozen monogrammed), gloves, maybe a new towel, and I could use a new bristle brush.

Oh, probably ready for a few new sweaters too. :)

For me it's all about giving and watching the smiles of joy of my recipient's. Especially the youngsters.

However for me, another 12 months of golf will work quite well. I'm sure I will recieve some golf stuff from friends and family. The reality is,  I have all the golf gear I actually need. :-)

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

I am a frugal golfer.  For decades I have purchased good but inexpensive golf stand bags.  I have always coveted Sun Mountain stand bags but couldn't face spending $200+.  Recently a review on the Sun Mountain 2.5 caught my eye.  Since I walk and carry, 2.5 pounds sounded great.  Pulled the trigger a week ago and my wife can wrap it up & put it under the tree - I doubt I will need it until March. ;-)

Christmas came a bit early,

Mine did too. I wanted a newer style of cart cover this year.
Mrs. Claus surprised me with a new Encompass Cart Cover last week.
I went out today and played, it was a chilly 39* outside, inside cart temp with heater on low, a toasty 62*

Range finder.  Ideas?

All of the Bushnell range finders are good as are the Leupold.   This year I bought a Leupold GX-2i2.   It has a slope feature that can be turned off if so desired.   I really like it.

Want or getting? I will go with the realistic answer. I think I want a new Revolver bag, moving away from the Sun Mountain bag, Hopefully the Revolver will handle the walking cart better.

I already replaced the irons, the wedges and the golf bag earlier in the year (they all needed it!). And because I needed a putter to leave with the older clubs/bag at the other house, I went on callawaypreowned.com during CyberWeek, and got 2 nice used putters for the price of one!

So, I am really set, but if anything could strike my fancy, it would be that GameGolf Live thingie... Who knows? Maybe Santa will feel like dropping it in the chimney? :-)

Got a Garmin S2 Approach GPS watch. I have Callaway rangefinder - which is great for calibrating average club distance. Also for helping out with USGA course ratings.

But, rangefinder is too much hassle to use on course, especially when half the rounds last year were "cart path only,"

Less than perfect drives will leave me with blind shots on home course, so GPS will be easier than trying to walk back up hill with rangefinder and interpolate distance. Overall, distance to front - center - back is more than sufficient for someone struggling to break 90. I just have to scope out pin position if green is unusually large.

S2 also gives clearance distance for hazards, and can be used to measure distance of drive.

Got it on sale (Thanksgiving early) for $99 - original MSRP was $299. Hope to use it once in 2016 if a warm day arises.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Got a pair of new footjoys season ending sale with discounts and golf certificates I got a $125.00 pair for $40.00.  They are going under the tree for me from my wife.  Bought a Cleveland Classic 3 wood.  Great pristine shape. Good good deal! Needed a reliable 3 wood. It is going under the tree for me from the grandkids.  I find now, that like my wife for years has done and said. Be VERY specific, don't beat around and give "aw shucks, I don't need anything really answers."  That's when you get ties and socks.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
