Best Shot of the Week

520 yard par 5, I bombed my drive, found my ball right beside the 150 yard marker in the middle of the fairway.. I thought there is no way.. thought I maybe hit the cartpath, but it was only 10 or so yards past the cartpath so I might have gotten a little extra but not much.. I was still skeptical of the distances though because I have never hit one past 310 and there was no slope or wind, the fairways were hard as a rock though so I'm sure that helped a bit. I checked google earth's yardage thing and it was accurate.. but anyways, I hit an 8 iron on to the back of the green with my second shot then miss my eagle putt and miss my birdie put and make par grrrrrr I would find a way to screw up the best drive of my life...I 3 putted 8 times that round and shot 20 over.. if only I could putt worth a damn I'd be in pretty good shape.

Last Wednesday, playing Mens night (9holes) with co-worker. After 2 birdies in a row, I was -2 after five holes. Playing the 490yd par 5 sixth hole. I hit my tee shot well, but finished in the rough behind a tree that hugs the right side of the fairway. I only had about 205yd left, but had to hit a low hook to keep it under the tree AND land it soft enough to hold the green. Hit a pured 3-iron punch that finished 20 feet past the pin and almost made the putt coming back

Par 3 hole that I'd never parred before: Since I didn't manage to screw any of them up, then it's a tie between the 5-iron that got me just off the green, the chip that got me within six-eight feet and the putt that fell for the par. Woo-haa.

What's in my bag:

- Cleveland HiBore XL 10.5 degree
- Knockoff 3 and 5 woods
- TaylorMade Burner Oversize Irons, 3-PW- Dynacraft SW- Cleveland 60 deg wedge (perhaps not for long, though)- Odyssey 550 Putter

Hit my drive into the trees on a 300 yard par 4 and was right up against a tree. Decided to switch to left handed so i would not hit my club on a tree and hit it quite good nearly to the green i didnt quite get up and down from there but the tap in bogey was good enough.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

Ridiculous pitch-in on #11. Pitched a 9-iron about 30 feet to the right of the green and let it trickle down the steeply sloped fairway. Bounced onto the green and somehow rolled in. Awesome birdie.

Hard to say. Either one of:

1. 260 yard 5-wood to a sliver of a fairway (carry+roll)
2. 280 yard 3-wood (carry+roll) to left edge of green on a short par-4
3. 90 yard sand wedge to 3-foot pin-high for a par-save
4. Short-sided, flopped a 60 to 3 feet for a par-save
5. 15-foot putt for a must-make par-save

I focused and visualized really well on each of those shots. That's mainly why I consider them best. They came off exactly like I saw them. People thought I was nuts looking up in the air before I had even hit my ball.

Had a couple, 15 foot putt to save bogey and half the hole. Then hit an 8 iron to within 4 feet and made the putt for birdie to go up 6 strokes. My opponent caught up and we were tied going to 18. He went off the fairway and I hit a monster that went about 275 down the middle and hit a 9 iron to within 10 feet two putted for a par and a 1 stroke win.

2nd shot on a par 4 for left me right of the green in some spinach and short sided to boot. I dropped my 56* softly and steeply in behind ball, it floats up, lands on the fringe, kicks forward, draino. Since I made two ugly shots prior to that, my opponent came unglued and made a triple followed by a nine on the next hole (par 5).

Mine was actually last sunday. I sliced a drive on a 350 yd par 4 actually drove it into the right rough on the next hole over, left me im guessing about 175 yards to my green from the rough and over the trees separating the 2 holes, i couldnt even see the green from where i was, just knew the general direction. Took my 5 hybrid and nailed the best shot I've hit probably all year, over the trees, over the bunker on the right side of the green and on the green about 15 ft away, 2 putted and got par.

Yesterday had two, both with my MacGregor NVG 9 wood (yeah, weird, but its my best 200 yd club), very windy day.

180 yard par 3, choked all the way down on my 9w and put the ball to 5 feet of the flag after ~6" of bounce. Missed the birdie putt but didn't care.

425 yard par 4, dogleg right, weak drive off the fairway, 200 yd out, 9w to 2 feet of the pin for birdie.

That club earned its position in the bag yesterday.

Par 5 yesterday, pulled my drive right next to the woods and had 240 remaining to the pin with water all along the right and partially in front of the green. Decided against laying up for some reason and hit my 16* Cobra hybrid onto the green about 4 feet from the cup, and made the eagle putt. That shot will have me trying stupid stuff on the course for the rest of the summer!

after a terribly short chip to the edge of the first cut of green...
pin placement was the very back and i was putting from the front...
easily a 60 footer right to left uphill...
thought i clobbered it and gave up on it too early...
was picking up my wedge and walking to 2 putt when that baby rolled back to the hole after i thought it went well past it

Been working on the S&T; swing again to regain my consistency. The holes I used the S&T; I was +2 with 2 GIR, yet 7 putts. The other 5 holes I was +10.

Got off topic. My best shot was a putt on a severely sloping green from about 8 feet. It lipped out really hard, but it lipped out the right way and fell back into the hole.

I played the course I grew up on for the first time in 20 years...and shot my worst score of 112 thanks to my wicked slice returning and going OB a lot.

However, it was all made up for on the 2nd hole which is a severe dogleg right Par 4, 335 yards. Remember that wicked slice? Curved right around the trees and rolled onto the green. I two putted from 20 feet to get my only birdie of the day.

    • A good option is to play the Par 3 courses. after playing an 18 -hole round. The Par 3 courses have 18 holes, we usually played only 9 holes after playing 36 holes on each of the trips we had. You may want to check out Grand National while you're in the middle of Alabama. I enjoyed Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge courses which are a short drive north.
    • In August, I am playing the World Am in Myrtle Beach. I do not know which courses yet, but should be a blast. Aside from that, those are the only golf trip plans, unless I play while on vacation in Destin in June.
    • Even on a perfect center hit I was receiving at most 1.48 smash factor. 10 days ago on the warming up for a round my Driver made a weird sound, I checked the bottom and it was cracked. Don't know for how long it was cracked but at least this time the crack was easy visible. Maybe it was already cracked before but with a more subtle crack?.. don't know. I'm waiting for TaylorMade to approve the warranty and send me a new head. I was using the Stealth Plus, I will take the opportunity and upgrade it to the Qi10 LS paying the difference.  On Sunday with my old Titleist 915 and softer balls I was reaching 1.5, even 1.51 on center hits. Test didn't went well. Only gained 2..3 miles, not worth pursuing. Figured out that with a ball and with a target, my path was way to in to out with this new idea, so in order to move the club in the correct path I needed to slow down to redirect the club on the downswing or aim more to the right, close the face a play a big hook.. not possible. I already play a big draw with Driver, more curvature is unplayable. Yesterday at home, with no ball messed around with a more neutral path, even swinging a little out to in. It felt a lot more in sync with the body. With a big in to out path it feels like my hands are working right, away from the body, when the body is working to rotate to the left. With the path to the left is was easier to apply force thru the hitting zone.  As always tested 10 swings with my current swing (A), and 10 with this little out to in path(B).  The difference was huge, like 12 miles faster with swing (B). I knew something wasn't right. The fact was that the PRGR was aligned more in line with the (B) path so it of course was giving higher speeds. I proceeded to align it with the (A) path and tested again 5 more swings each. Again (B) was faster but only by 5 miles. (Made a tiny experiment moving the PRGR to a more extreme in to out path and the swings register 25/30% slower for both swings, so it wasn't reading properly at that angle) Finally I moved the PRGR in the middle of both paths, and this time (B) won by 9 miles. Off course, this was without a ball and a target so.. I will be hitting the range tomorrow to see the real difference.

    • At Bent Tree, right? I'm surprised the greens were that slow. I played right around the corner at Northstar and their greens were normal speed. Slightly soft/receptive but not overly so and not slow or shaggy by any means.
