2/9: Day off from work + no rain in the forecast = range time! (Sure, the temperature was in the mid-40s, with wind gusting over 20 MPH, but that builds character!) I actually shocked at how well I was striking the ball with nearly every club in the bag; having the club in a semi-proper position at the top (and not stuck way behind me) has its advantages.

A few things I need to work on: my tempo is a little quick, and my worst shots came when my upper body outpaced the lower body on transition into the downswing; I started to tire near the bottom of the bucket, so I should take a break from full swings during a practice session (or just hit less balls); and my wedge shots were pretty inconsistent.

2/9: Played 9 today after work. Shot a 49 with 5 bogeys and 4 doubles. Tee shots were horrible, seemed like every second shot was a recovery shot. I really have to start taking a minute to stretch and warm-up when I play after work. Despite the score, I did have some good shots...a 3/4 9 iron from 100 yards that stuck about 6 feet from the pin, along with several great pitches that rolled up to well within 1-putt range...but I missed all the putts! DOH!

2/9/2017 - I jumped out of the car onto the first tee today to try and get some video (unsuccessfully) and play some shots in the wind.  I focused on really trying to keep the ball down today, so I played a lot of extra club on most shots.  My pitching and chipping was excellent today.  On my course, a lot of greens are raised which means uphill lies chipping back up.  On those shots, I focused on getting my shoulders in line with the slope and the results were much better than I've had in the past.

Side note... it was a sloppy 46 (+10) for 9 holes that included 4 pars, 2 bogeys, 1 double and 2 triples.

I hit about 20 balls on the range this morning with my 58 degree wedge using a 3/4 swing trying to get a lower ball flight that I can reliably use from 50 yards or so.

On the course, I faced that shot about 4-5 times and continually came up just short.  It was frustrating, but... the good thing is that each of those shots was directly on line.  They just landed into false fronts and came back down the hills on me.

Shot 46 - 44 = 90 today.  Not really the best round for me.  I found myself pulling a lot of shots.  Unfortunately, other than possibly tomorrow, I won't get my hands on a club until at least next Thursday since I'll be at a conference for work from Sunday through Wednesday.

I'll have to find other ways to get some golf work in.

10min on new assignment from instructor. As left wrist and right elbow are coming along, we'll continue to work on steepness by exaggerating and slow motion (and a new checkpoint of shoulder tilt at A6). Next assignment is to deliver the right shallowness using WHATEVER slow speed I need to get it done. Looking forward to next warm day to knock this out.

2/10: Played 7 holes after work. Was 5 over with 2 pars and 5 bogeys. Still not much of a warm-up today...drives were straight as an arrow...go figure. :-)

Had a 115yd approach on the first three holes, so I now know that's a perfect 3/4 8 iron, and if I forget to choke down, I'll be 10-15 yards long. I hit all three greens, which was nice, but still didn't get pars on those holes. The two pars came from a scramble and a sand save.

Women's college tourney started at the course this morning. I love my excuses, but there's no doubt the greens were much faster than normal today. They didn't seem to really roll any faster than normal when I hit them, they just didn't stop once they got going. I rolled a 15 foot putt nearly 15 feet passed the hole on the first green. :-O

Had fun though. Taking the fam to the tournament in the morning and my daughter seems excited so it should be fun. :-D

2/10: Rehearsing downswing triggers. Bumping the hips seems to be the most natural-feeling way to sync together all of the other moving parts in the swing.

2/11 - pitch swings of varying lengths.

Since my first time watching the pitch video, I've grown a lot more comfortable with the motion itself, but learning my distance control is the challenge

I'd like to try to earn this award next month, so I'm going to try to start posting every day this month.

Today i spent 5 minutes in the mirror working on my spine tilt at address till the top of the backswing. I did this to ensure that I don't bob up and down in my backswing. I have an issue where my posture changes so I'll either tilt my torso more forward, or backward which cause fat and thin shots. I'm looking to correct this.

    • I do not follow amateur or Korn Ferry tour but this story might get me to pay attention. At age 15 to be as accomplished as he is makes me think we may be seeing a future star.  A story of him breaking out may help reinvigorate golf viewership. Miles Russell has a hot start, cools off but finishes with a 68 in first Korn Ferry event Miles Russell, a 15-year-old Jacksonville Beach resident, made his Korn Ferry Tour debut on...
    • Day 8: Indoor backswing work, mostly rehearsals of takeaway. Hit some balls wtih 6-iron working on adding flow, but not too Much which I tend to do, swaying too far away from target.
    • Day 55: 4/18/2024 Got to the range again today. Planned to do my priority pieces and then hit targets with irons. But after my priority pieces I hit a few drives and tugged them all hard left. .... Uh... oh boy.  So, I spent about a half hour trying to hit targets at the range with my driver.
