2/17: Busy fixing the truck this evening. Five minutes of wall drill and a few pitch shots, but not much else.

On my way home!

5 min practice swings with no club or ball at Bogota's El Dorado Airport

started with hands on wall to feel resistance of downward transition from lower body turn on left side

next did V structure swings, pushing down to work muscles thru arms to back

finally arms across the chest and slow swings to feel turn

Played in a competition - 33 points isn't too shabby for where I feel my game is at the moment.

Now doing the evening mirror work trying to cement the backswing feel.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

2/18: Good 20 minutes working on downswing club path with video. Flat left wrist, right elbow, shallowing and decent A6 club position. Was tending to tip club on downswing again so regained a bit of the feel again- needs to feel more outwards with hands and also keeps me from standing up.

2/18 - Shoulder turn work and putting in the basement. There is a 2 foot thick glacier in my backyard where I usually set up my net. It is solid ice! :-P

30 min

first swing practice with club (no balls) since teaching session.

key element is transition and promoting proper start to down swing.

sklz swing trainer help warm up and promote swing thru.

7 iron swings with first pump drill with a much exaggerated inside track using hockey style swings

Did the same with driver

absolutely love how club whips thru on this swing. Very excited to try on range and course tomorrow!

2/18: Played 18 today and shot an 11 over, 84!

A full 9 strokes better than my scoring average over the last 8 rounds, and 3 strokes better than my record on this course. 1 birdie, 8 pars, 6 bogeys, 3 doubles.

I had 17 (n)GIRs! (Well, 4 were greenside bunkers but I managed to get out and reasonably close every time.) The only approach that wasn't in regulation was after I sliced a drive into a pond. The pond takes up a 1/4 to a 1/2 of my shot zone with the driver, no matter where I aim it. However, I had been hitting them straight all day, so I went for it. I recovered with a 160 yard 5 iron to 15 feet. Phew. I then proceeded to 3-putt for a double. Doh! Head-smack! I'll be hitting a 3-iron off that tee from now on.

Like anyone, I could go on and on about my best round ever. Truly nice feeling to have everything -- drives, irons, pitching, putting, and strategy (thank you, LSW) -- come together on the same day.

19/2 - Last day of range work, trying to get hands more passive in transition. Some definite success, but more work needed on shallowing the club in the downswing. Back to work tomorrow, so will have to really get back to the 5 minutes in the morning/evening!

2/19 - An hour at the range. Focused on float load feel, Key 3 and completing the shoulder turn. Worked in 10 minutes segments with the PW and 7iron broken up with pitching and flighted wedge work. Lousy mats. The stall I was in was too small for the driver or woods.

Hit a bucket of balls before going out to play 18 (where I shot a 99, ugh)

New swing felt very good on range, especially with shorter clubs.

felt turn and pow using long muscles. The longer the club, the more difficult finding the swing

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Day 3- Practiced putting for 20 minutes.
    • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
    • Most the stuff I found on Instagram and just copy and mix it up. a few of my favorites: Clean>Squat>Press> March Around the body >catch >Squat> press I also hold a the kettle bell upside down with both hands on the handle. Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
