These videos are getting rather long. That's fine, but… y'all know length doesn't matter, right!?!? :-D.

I'm kinda hoping future videos are about ten to twelve minutes. Just answer the questions, hit some shots, call it a day. :-)

(Note: I haven't watched yours @DeadMan and you're a West Team guy anyway so maybe @mvmac loves the long ones… I just saw the length and wanted to comment. Also, bear in mind this is coming from a guy who struggles to make a sub-8:00 evolvr video. :-D)

P.S. Loved the dancing at 24:08. Wow!

It is with great pride that I present my Newport Cup application video. Enjoy!

A few notes: you may want to look away around the 17 minute mark. I apologize in advance for you all seeing that :-P

I also left my golf shoes in my trunk when I filmed the vlog portion. Got to the first tee, realized I forgot them in my trunk, but didn't feel like going all the way back to grab them. I probably should have ...

Shoe size: 10.5

Shirt size: L (or M for anything Footjoy, oddly)

Pants size: 36x32.

The last tee shot with lead leg getting kicked up in the air and all was hilarious.. :-). Haven't watched the interview as can't turn up volume here at work.

Good luck (dead)man..!

It ended up being a lot longer than I expected, too. I was aiming for 15-20 minutes. But I ended up filming almost 10 minutes on the course - partly because I too a few more strokes than I would like - and partly because I wanted to bitch about the snow/cold in mid-May. That was despite my phone dying on and off because of the cold! And then I just don't shut up when answering questions.

I honestly had a lot more fun than I expected putting this together, so that's part of it, too.

That dancing was not expected, haha. I still am surprised I made contact, and the shot turned out decent.

To argue against myself, longer videos give those who watch 'em a better understanding of who you are.

I've just been very busy lately and want to watch these videos, but carving out half an hour has been tough. Fortunately, I don't have to watch this one super intently as you're on the losing team's side of the country… ;-)

Well now I've decided to go get fitted for an Edel putter to make sure you eat your words. :-D

I did notice that first putting stroke ... woof. I need to do some work on that.

Well done!  I recognize the course from the ancient "Dan Plan" videos.  Lots of trees to avoid.

And… we're still taking new submissions, too!

I will have mine submitted this coming week.  Just have to finish the questions and put it all together.

Yep. I think I knew that. Was just listing everyone.

And again, new people can still get in. We still have two spots open.

I will do a vlog today for kicks. I'm playing 9 or MAYBE 18 holes in a couple hours. I'll be walking with my push cart so I should be able to get my existing phone mount swung around to take video of some shots. You guys just want a few shots with a good mix, right? Like some drives, approaches (long and short), chips, pitches, sand shots, etc. right? Not like every stroke of my round?

But honestly I'm out of the running. My game is improving greatly now and I'm back to pushing breaking 80 (on easier courses), and my score spread is tighter again.

The problem is I can't keep a legitimate handicap. I play every Saturday with my normal group but they play by different (highly advantageous) rules. Any other time I play (90% of the time) I'm playing by myself in the evening. So 95% of my rounds I can't record.

I'd still like to finish my application so that next year I can be more considered when I apply again, if I can actually break into a single digit legitimate handicap. I've got to do some thinking on how to figure that one out. I've got a guy at work playing in a league down the street from my house in the evenings, maybe they play by the real rules of golf.

Edit: never mind, I found the vlog instructions on the OP. Y'all aren't making this easy :P

Three holes (every shot, including pre-shot routine, but not the walking or driving between shots): a par 3, 4, and 5.

The last team member will be chosen July 31.

You could play by the proper rules on Saturdays. Or find someone to just walk with you for some of the evening rounds.

Either way, I agree… applying is not going to be a bad thing.

Here we go!

FWIW, I ended up doing 4 holes, because 15 is a par 3 and 18 is a par 5. Those holes are also my favorite couple on the golf course, so it worked out well. (Very lucky they let me go out on the back 9 too.)

My apologies for the wind noise in the video. My iPhone would have been better, but I don't have enough space to record that much video, so I used my old Casio. Its mic tends to pick up every single bit of wind.
