Just got done playing in my fourball tournament match, we won 3-0.    Didn't see this until now.

So,Thank you @iacas It will be an honor being a member of the East, I mean winning, team.    :banana:

And looking forward to meeting old and new friends, both to play with and against.  Going to be a lot of fun!

I don't need no stinking cigar.  LOL

So the East team keeps staying mature, us old guys have to keep together.  :whistle:

I'm going to change things up a bit today, partly because I don't know a ton of intimate details about the person's next selection, but also just to keep y'all on your toes. :-)

The fourth member of the East (Blue) team…

If you mean by 'Horrible' that he supports teams that win all the time then COUNT ME IN!

The Fourth Selection for the 2017 Newport Cup, West Coast (Red) Team is…

@mchepp

Red Team

Michael is a TST staffer, long time member and lives in the Pacific Northwest. He's has been playing golf for close to 20 years and he's currently a 5 handicap.

Michael has contributed some great content for the site with his reviews, blogs and TST staff predictions articles. He was on the previous Newport Cup and I was very impressed with his clutch play. His consistency and sweet swing are going to be a huge asset to the team.

@iacas and I will be making our next selection on June 30th. So to everyone else, please keep posting your submissions. You don't want to miss a chance at playing in this great event!

If you're interested in being a candidate for the Red Team, let me know ASAP! Until the last team member is chosen, it's not too late to get picked.

HEPP! HEPP! HEPP!

That is the easiest name to chant in Victory!

The Fifth Selection for the 2017 Newport Cup, West Coast (Red) Team is…

@DeadMan

Red Team

Daniel is from Colorado and is use to playing in cold, wet weather, which we might run into at Pinehurst in October (hopefully not). Daniel credits TST for getting his handicap to mid-single digits even while having a baby, impressive stuff. Even recently his game has been trending in the right direction with great scores and doing good work on Evolvr.

This will be Daniel's first Newport Cup and he's going to be a great addition to the team. I look forward to meeting and hanging out with him in person.

My nickname for Daniel is going to be "Happy Feet", :-D (watch the swing below). If I was the Blue Team I'd be very worried to play a guy who is an Evolvr student and can channel a little Arnold Palmer followthrough ;-)

@iacas and I will be making our last selection on July 31st. So to everyone else, please keep posting your submissions. You don't want to miss a chance at playing in this great event!

If you're interested in being a candidate for the Red Team, let me know ASAP! Until the last team member is chosen, it's not too late to get picked.

Leave my golf shoes in my trunk one time and now my nickname is Happy Feet. That'll teach me!

Thanks, for the selection, @mvmac. And thanks everybody for the congrats. I am really looking forward to it. I need to step up my practice now!

    • I would agree. There is only a small number of players who are amped to play. Spieth and Thomas and Poulter Sergio come to mind.
    • The same excuses are true for the Europeans though.
    • I don’t see anything to be up in arms about. He was being honest about his prep on tour vs cup. I bet more of our players feel this way. I guess we shall see how it plays out next week.
    • I read some of the stuff Brooks said, and he doesn't seem to be really gung ho.  So I can understand Azinger and others who are critical of these comments.  Most players would LOVE to play in even a single Ryder Cup, and are rabidly enthusiastic about the matches if selected. On the other hand, he's pretty honest, the formats and requirements ARE way different from any individual player's normal procedures.  The best players have fine-tuned their schedules, both on and off the course, so It HAS to be an adjustment to follow a schedule set by someone else.  And yes, having played a bunch of fourball match play, and at least some foursome match play (the Newport Cups are an example), they require a change in mental approach as compared to individual stroke play.  To me, if you're going to adjust successfully to this stuff, its critical to recognize the ways in which you'll need to adjust.
