When the clubhead is in its normal address position, the dimensions of the head must be such that:

  • the distance from the heel to the toe is greater than the distance from the face to the back;
  • the distance from the heel to the toe of the head is less than or equal to 7 inches (177.8 mm);
  • the distance from the heel to the toe of the face is greater than or equal to two thirds of the distance from the face to the back of the head;
  • the distance from the heel to the toe of the face is greater than or equal to half of the distance from the heel to the toe of the head; and
  • the distance from the sole to the top of the head, including any permitted features, is less than or equal to 2.5 inches (63.5 mm).

After the issue with Bryson, I wondered the same thing.  Just looking at the photos, the angle looks pretty traditional.  Here's where I thought I sawan issue, I think its conforming:

Quote

c. Attachment to Clubhead

The shaft must be attached to the clubhead at the heel either directly or through a single plain neck and/or socket. The length from the top of the neck and/or socket to the sole of the club must not exceed 5 inches (127 mm), measured along the axis of, and following any bend in, the neck and/or socket (see Fig. VI).

Exception for Putters: The shaft or neck or socket of a putter may be fixed at any point in the head.

If you really want to know, I suggest you ask the USGA.  Advise them of the angle of divergence from vertical and send them a photo.

It's like one of those eye tricks though: in one picture it looks almost 90° and in the other closer to 60.

In the first pic it looks, to me, like the putter is being stood up on its "heel". The second pic shows it lying "soled" on a green.

And since MrFreeze is a righty, we're looking at the back of the putter. I have no idea what the face looks like. If it's been ground or milled flat, or is round like the back!

What I wonder about, more than the lie angle, is the loft angle. If the face of that putter is round, like the back, if you lift up a bit on your putts the loft angle could actually be in negative numbers!

It is round. Think a cylinder rather than any putter you have seen.

Yes, the later pictures made it much clearer. The earlier ones made it look like it could be closer to vertical than it is.

Thank you.
