How does the hybrid or large club head such as woods suppose to sit at address?

If i let it sit on it's own bottom, the club face is pretty open to target line...

if i align it to the target line, it looks de lofted and there is some play on the back/bottom.

It depends on the golfer. Some set up with the face closed, square, or open. I prefer to have the club face slightly open at address. I don't believe all clubs are designed to sit square when soled on the ground.

I am in the camp that never soles a club, even if only to the point the sole is simply brushing lightly on the blades of grass. There is no friction to overcome (even if minutely fractional), nothing to disturb the MOI.

I think it depends totally on how you deliver the club during your swing.  I used to have to close all my fairway woods at address so that really only the leading edge was touching the ground.  I still got a functional ball flight out of them but I was always left wondering why I couldn't hit them properly when I just sat them on the ground 'as they lie'.  They looked way too open and went high and right.

I've made some changes to my swing (through lessons with a local pro) and now I can hit my fairway woods starting from their natural lie behind the ball.  The club face still looks slightly open but I trust the fact that my swing path + face angle will produce a straight ball with a small draw.

I would have thought that most clubs are designed to sit on the ground in a particular way for a 'standard' swing path and face angle but in reality setup is going to be modified by how the golfer's swing works.

I always line it up with my target line. I like to feel like I'm starting and returning it to the same point

My driver looks open if I sit it on the ground.   I grip my club before it touches the ground and it looks slightly closed if I were to ground it.

thats just like trying to square your driver on the ground with a tee'd up ball and you will be hitting off the heel unless you compensate during the swing. But whatever you do, if you do it consistently, it ain't all bad.

Same for me. My Driver, fairway wood, etc. look open when i address the ball. I know they're not, its just the way it looks.

Yeah, me too.  I will let the 3 wood and hybrid touch the ground, but I'm not going to set it there first and let it point wherever and then grip it, I'm going to grip it so it's pointing the way I want it to point and then just slightly rest it on the ground.

I hover my driver though.

Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
