Please folks...don't be this guy.    Unreal....

I paired up with this guy recently while we are still in "Winter Golf" mode.   The day in question was a beautiful 70+ degree day in the middle of winter with 20-30mph winds.   It's a given.....Ok, it's still winter and the wind is howling....this may be a rough day for scoring and nobody in my part of the country has played much golf over the past few months anyway!!!!  We get it.....there will be some rust and bad results!!!   I paired with this CLOWN that admittedly had RUST like all of us, but he proceeded to curse and throw clubs after every bad shot!  You've got to be kidding to me!???  IT IS WINTER!!  This guy was like a cartoon character of a real person!!!

He proceeded to throw clubs violently on nearly every hole, smash clubs into the cart, and I felt unsafe on several occasions due to being in a near proximity!!  He broke no fewer than 3 clubs on this day...... what is with this idiot?   Not only that, but he left an "IDIOT" mark in the green!!!!!!     For you wondering what this is???........this is taking a wild swing at the ball after it misses the hole with a putter to smack it away off the green....and taking a divot from the green in the process.    This clown made me cringe all day long.   Painful to watch and be part of...and I felt unsafe at times too.   I was too close for comfort and was worried I'd catch a piece of shaft or broken cart plastic when he was venting frustration.....I hate playing with this kind of person more than anything else.    On a brighter note...at least he wasn't slow!!!!

Rant off!!!!!....please discuss!!

I'm seriously wondering if something else was going on in his life. I've seen friends get mad and even toss a club once a round, but never like what you describe.

I'll echo what several others said, I would be looking for an exit point.  I love to play golf and having a day like that in the middle of winter is a gift but that was ridiculous.  That's why I like to walk ... there are two sides of the fairway.

I have been at least half that guy, but I've been getting better about it. Even at my worst, I would never hit the cart with a club. I don't think I've ever taken a piece of the green either. Damaging other people's property is a line I don't cross even when I am out of my mind otherwise. Throwing clubs has happened. Cursing most definitely has happened. Still I'm doing better in those regards with each passing year.

Honestly, my worst is usually when I'm alone. I do a hell of a lot better when someone else is there. Strangers actually work the best for me. My sense of shame seems to override the anger impulse.

Aside from that, 70 degrees is not a winter day no matter when in the year it takes place.

+1 to not finishing with this gem. I usually go to the dentist to be that miserable - but even that lasts only about 30 minutes.

I agree with what everyone else is saying.  I would not have finished with this guy.  Dropping clubs is one thing, but Rory-throwing clubs is another.  I get pissed off when people don't fix their ball marks on the green much less some ass hat being upset his putt didn't go in so he takes some sod off one...that would set me off.  I have been known to curse at a shot or a bad break, but I don't do it in a way it makes the others in my group feel awkward.  I give myself about 7-10 rounds at the beginning of the season to get back into form, as the first round out for me is to break off the inch of rust I have accumulated over the long and cold North Dakota winters..

Unfortunately, I've played with people like this.  Even worse, it has happened in tournament rounds... so there was no escape.

When it's happened... I've taken the opportunity to walk around and enjoy the sights & sounds of the course... breathing slowly and doing my best to block out anything else.  It's calming to me which helps to balance out the idiocy going on around me some.

If it was a casual round... I'd have backed out with some excuse and then tried to explain to the proshop what was going on so that I could get back out and actually enjoy my round.

Sorry you had to deal with that.

If course was set up for it and you had the clubhouse at the turn I would have let someone know that they have a potential property damage issue if he was smashing clubs into the cart. Sounds like something you want to see, from a distance, on YouTube so you can laugh and make fun of them but never up close.

I would have bowed out as well, especially at turn stating only playing nine. Then would have finished by myself or left.

I just use these folks as a model as to what I don't want to be. It's a reminder that I'm paying good money to play this game so I better find some way to enjoy it even when my game is in the dumper. Luckily I don't have play with these folks often.

I think not only would I have left the course, but I would have found a course official or someone in the clubhouse to report

not only the damage to the cart but more importantly to me, the damage to the green.  This clown should be banned from

playing there,  Harsh, but then he brought it on with his own actions.

When my game goes South, I just tear up the score card and continue on. Usually, within a hole or two, I start hitting decent shots again. Although I have never tried it, maybe even just not recording the strokes for a few holes and if I can remember, fill the missing holes in, when (and if) I start hitting them again.

as for justification for this guy (not that there is), maybe his wife left him, he got fired from his job, lost a pile of money in the market or whatever.  Not so different than road rage.

There's really no excuse for misbehaving to that extent on the course. No matter what happened.

It's the same thing as fighting except without the assault and battery charges.

totally agree. I just could not think of the right word. Maybe "reason", still as you say no excuse what-so-ever on or off the course.

Yeah, I'd split. Probably go back to the shop and ask for a raincheck or my money back. When people gouge a green I get ticked.

Years ago I worked for a crazy ahole who wanted a golf partner. One time he missed a put and spit in the cup out of anger (nice for the next folks). I said, "I'm going to c$&%p in the next cup." and everybody laughed. That was about 15 years ago and one of the guys who was with us that day brought up my comment just recently. Luckily, I got away from that boss. He asked, "Where are you going?" I responded, "I'm not telling you." Haha...

Custom fit RBZ irons. Taylormade RBZ driver. Some crappy old high-bounce Macgregor wedge and an even older Mizuno 5 wood. Haven't settled on a ball yet - still looking. Decades of football, weightlifting and boxing came together to create the world's worst golfer. I'm slowly correcting that now.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
