If you're gonna be completely unlikable you better be close to the top. Having people root for you to fail can't make it any easier.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Awesome.

Dear Ian, T128 is not a good start.

I'm sure IJP is not pleased being one of the dewsweepers this morning - first group to tee off, already started bogey, birdie and is E after 3 holes.

I can't be the only one who would relish him having a 12 footer on the last hole, needing it to make the expected cut ..... and seeing it just slip by.

Yep--lots of good answers for that in this thread, alone.  But also, if you closely watch/listen to a tourney when a live mic is nearby, you'll see and hear for yourself that he is is prone to treating people like dirt when things aren't going well.  I didn't watch much of the RBC Heritage last weekend, but did see him on the last few of round 4 needing a good finish to secure his card.  His round was lackluster (+1, I think), and late in the round, the mics picked him up showing that same ol' side.

I don't mind the style/flair, or personality to match, or stepping up in the Ryder Cup, razzing up the rivalry, etc.  Heck, I'd argue those things are great for the sport, and make golf more fun to watch.  But the dude just seems to be a complete jerk.

I think it's linked earlier in this thread; @iacas has first-hand experience with IP from years back.  So...seems like IP is simply content with being who he is.

As of now he's even on round 2 with a projected position of 129.

Doesn't he have to jump all the way to 70th make the cut ?

Maybe we can start a movement to boycott any sponsor that gives this turd an exemption once he loses his card  (joking...mostly)

Besides - do sponsors want that? Who wants to use the same gear that Poulter uses?

(Maybe Ferrari?)

You wouldn't rather see that on Sunday?

My desire for a DeChambeau/Johnston final pairing with Poulter in the penultimate group slowly losing it seems unlikely to be fulfilled.

He's all over the place today.  4 birdies, 4 pars, and 3 bogies through 11.  1 under, but still only T112 with 7 to play.

I really wouldn't mind seeing him make the cut, just because it'll make for an interesting storyline in an otherwise fairly uninteresting tournament.

Oh - it could be both - today to make the cut, and if he makes it then again on Sunday to keep/lose his card. And potentially even later as others move up & down the leaderboard bumping IJP in and out of position.
It could be a great drinking game!!!

That sounds like too much energy. My limit is silently wishing for him to fail.

Nor do I. I actually enjoy those things.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
