Based on discussion in a previous topic… I'm happy to introduce the official Flop Shot Catch Challenge topic!

I've created an award (you can see at the top of the Site Awards) and will grant it to anyone who films themselves hitting a flop shot above head height and catching the ball before it hits the ground while still holding onto your wedge, then posts that video here in this thread as an embedded YouTube or Vimeo video for all to enjoy.

Hopefully the rules can stay that simple. Please be careful, though, as we do not want anyone injuring themselves trying to do this. Attempt this on flat ground and do not throw your wedge.

I'll try to film myself doing it later this afternoon.

I tried this last night and failed miserably using the 60° lob wedge. Nothing close enough for me to even setup my camera.

The upside is that I got some valuable practice time in on the short game.

Do it off concrete on the edge of a cliff, and then you'll get rep points from me...

Hehe, JK, this is funny.

Game on.  Tall grass for me.  Uphill lie to start, then working to off the flat if possible before video submitted.

I would, but my natural modesty dictates that I let others go first and take the credit...

Hope this counts. I've been sick and couldn't make it to the course..so we did it in my front yard. I tried to keep it short so I didn't have to run far...haha

At the chipping area today before a round, I tried several shots to see if I could get them to pop up nice and high. Well apparently I'm not opening the face enough, because I wasn't able to get anything that would've let me get under for a catch!

I tried this on the range today from a fluffy lie and can hit it high enough but it's still about 20 yards out.   I don't have but a 56º sand wedge.   What club is being used?  Is it probable with a 56º wedge?

@cipher Here I go to look for a no fault flop shot challenge insurance policy, it should be somewhere near the hole in one policies, no? ;-)

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.
