I personally liked Bella Colina and Tranquilo. Orange County is awesome for 36 since they have two different courses. Waldorf is like every other course you've ever played in Florida, but just perfectly manicured.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  Seems like the consensus view is to let them know that buddy golf is the priority of this trip and that they're responsible for their own entertainment if they want to come.

Sorry I caught this late, but then it doesn't matter since I agree with the REAL consensus which is that you screwed up by letting your trip be co-opted into some couples trip.

I hope it worked out.

I think this thread is a lesson on how to stick to your plan and lay out the rules clearly and early.

Just wondered - if your wife and girlfriends do anything on their own?

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

So my question is what do wives normally do on trips like this?

ummm.  who cares what they do as long as they don't ruin the round right?  They want to go?  well, they can coordinate between themselves.  :)

How have you guys entertained the non-golf playing spouses on golf trips?

Nope, but you could always do a dinner at a nice place and a movie at night?  This I guess would end the buddies trip thingy and become a couples trip.  Could be fun though as long as you got to enjoy the golf without any worry!

It all sounds fun by the way, I'm happy for you!

Hey Guys, a little update here.  So the wives got together and essentially planned everything they're going to do themselves.  They'll be at EPCOT for a bit, then Disney Springs.  We're not even sure they're going to meet us for dinner.  I'm starting to think they're disappointed we're tagging along on the trip, lol.

Also, I appreciate the advice on the different courses.  Found out that my buddy got some crazy discount from his job so that's how we ended up at the Waldorf.  Our rooms are free and the rounds are half price. He said that before he found out about the discount, he was looking at Streamsong or PGA national in Palm Beach.  That'll probably be our trip next year.

What would they do? Stay in the kitchen of course :p I kid I kid.

Our family and friends when we are planning for a trip we will always go to places or resorts that have golf courses. Often 3 days and 2 nights so we could play at least twice.

But we often play very early in the morning and come back to the hotels at 10 or 11 am, the wifeys would just wake up, having breakfast and go for a walk or something.

Well, see y'all have it worked out already but....you could have taken this suggestion for the value it is worth...coming from someone who has been married 3 times.

The guys should make it very plain upfront to the wives that this is a golf trip.  My speech would go something like this...."Hey, don't have a problem with you and the gals coming along but you do need to understand something.  We get up in the morning, leave for the golf course, play 36 holes...or maybe even 54, have a few drinks then come back to hotel.  Probably get food, more drinks.  Then go to bed, get up next day and do the entire process all over again.  So, y'all probably will not see very much of this on the trip.  I hope you and the gals have a great time."

You MUST set the expectation level before the trip gets much more into the planning stage.

Hey guys, we just had our golf trip this past weekend.  Below is an update/overview:

The Good: They were aerating 2 of the greens so we got an additional discount.  Played a good course, had two beers, hot dog, chips, and two powerades all for $75 total.  The next day we played 9 and it was only $45.

The women easily entertained themselves (that sounds weird).  They went to Epcot, planned our dinner, bought tix to Blue Man Group.  We fellas just showed up, played golf during the day and had good food and overpriced drinks in the evening.

We were paired with some a father and son visiting from Ireland.  The dad was a 12 and the son was a 5 handicap - much better than us but we managed to tie them in a skins match!  My partner has roughly the same handicap as me but we're deceptively bad.  We get plenty of pars but we make idiotic triple bogeys every 3-4 holes.  That made it pretty hard for them to beat us with the strokes given.  The Irish guys were extremely nice though and gave much welcomed swing advice.

The Bad:  So we ended up being paired with the Irish guys because 2 of the couples flaked out on us at the last minute.  Luckily, the remaining couple was the guy who I started playing golf with and his wife is one of my wives' best friends so it all worked out.

The course was a little more difficult than I expected.  Shot a 101 the first day.  There were lots of fairway bunkers and I discovered that I suck majorly at hitting out of those.  Almost all of the greens were protected by bunkers AND steep drop offs into water.  I can come out greenside bunkers just fine but there was no room to overshoot the flag.  Also, the course was pretty long and we were playing the middle tees.  On one hole I hit a 270 yard drive (which is above average for me) and still had a 6 iron into the green!  The next day we played nine and I shot 9 over.  Didn't hit driver much, played to the safe landing areas.

It was really, really hot.  Felt like above 95.  We ended up not even finishing half of a beer and just chugged water and powerade.  I think my partner was slightly dehydrated around the 12th hole.  We had to stop and wait for some food so he could continue.  We were supposed to play 27 the first day but we quit after 18.

Overall, it was really fun.  We're looking forward to doing this annually.  It's my turn to pick the next course/resort so I'm definitely open to suggestions.  I think we're going to stick to Florida again.  I've already seen some good courses recommended earlier in this thread.  As you read above, there's no need for me to plan for the ladies - they can take care of themselves.

Hell, it they can't amuse themselves in Orlando, they shouldn't be allowed to leave home at all.

I had a similar thought.  If you can't find something to do in places like Orlando or say New Orleans you just aren't trying.

Have the wives go get in line to ride "Pandora". You'll have plenty of time to get 18 in and some drinks before they'll be back.

It's just understood that our annual September golf trip is the guys only. The wives are welcome to go where they please, as long as it's not near us. One year, one of the guys new GF tried to worm her way in (he was too whipped to say no). We just made it clear to him that her wasn't any more welcome than our own wives are, and that by pushing her way in, she was just going to make it so he couldn't go either. She was mad, but he had to deal with her, not us.  In the end, he came, and she stayed home, making dozens of calls to more than one of our cel's, which we conveniently forgot in our rooms. Apparently she also tortured one of our groups wives, who apparently told her, in no uncertain terms, that she was acting like a child.

This is the latest email from my buddy golf trip planned for next week...

"okay - I've got everyone's current GHIN - next up will be team selections then pairings - but first Billy***** is in charge of bringing Wild Turkey 101 and the Snowman to bring summer cooler concoction  - also I heard BC Canada has recently legalized MJ so **** is in charge to get some good pot - maybe **** can secure some Viagra as I heard a few guys are having some trouble getting it up  --  more to come(so to speak)............."

I don't see any mention of what the wives are going to do.  :-P

    • Committing to one brand of ball this year - Snell MTB Prime X, the 5 doz. pack. Like how they perform for me. At $18/doz., can live with cover scuffing. Iron regripping with GolfPrice MCC+4 Teams std. in red/navy. May be retiring Odyssey Dual Force after 30 yrs. Seems like I can't get it to the hole anymore. Kind of light and has lots of toe hang. My reg. group's hounding finally wore me down.    From Callaway preowned - trying out the Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K in double wide (less toe hang) and triple wide (face balanced). Both also noticeably heavier...we shall see.
    • WOW, it looks like he has been hitting stones with that putter to put all of those nicks into it.  I can't see how a ball would cause many those dings.
    • I'm fighting a knee as well as a foot so I "Feel your pain".  Luckily for me the PT is helping at this time and I am hoping knee surgery is not imminent.  Best of luck to you.
    • I would guess putting grooves in it might make it non-conforming. I am not sure how stringent the USGA is on restoring golf clubs.
    • If PT doesn't work, then all other options (shots) are just temporary bandages of the pain. You may do more damage. Pain is the bodies way of telling you to STOP. Once you get rid of that, you are just now using an already damaged body part and put more stress and strain on it.
