We have mentioned Club Champion recently in our discussion of post-Golfsmith club fitting sources.

Well, CC has a quarter-page ad in today's Wall Street Journal, page A12. Dave Leadbetter is featured in the advertorial. DL touts custom fitting in general, and CC in particular.

CC now has 20 studios scattered around the USA. Has anyone dropped in on CC yet?

One opened in Orlando about a year ago, but I haven't been there yet.  From what I've heard, they're over the top expensive.  Not just for the fitting, but for the subsequent build too.

Again, no personal experience though.

I'm seriously thinking about going to CC in Chicago for a fitting, but I haven't because:

a) I hear the premium for clubs built there are substantial, though if they're truly a much better fit? And of course I'll never know if I would have been fine with a decent off the rack name brand recommended by Golf Galaxy or a PGA Super Store.

b) chicken and the egg - having only played about 6 rounds after a 15+ year layoff, I haven't (re)gained much consistency in my swing, so how could I possibly get a good fit? OTOH if my current irons are poorly fitted for my current age/condition...

c) In my prime many years ago, I was a consistent 80's shooter - I only broke 80/40 about a dozen times ever. FFWD to present - my last three rounds were 87-88 even with my ancient irons and new, cheapo "woods" (TM RBZ's), and I don't expect to get 10 strokes better no matter what I do at my age (63). If I can consistently shoot low 80's, I'd probably be satisfied.

Still debating what's best for me.

    • What a shot into 18 with all that pressure.  Great playing Xander.
    • One of the people who introduced me to golf in the first place would regularly do things that are generally bad etiquette:  try to make me mad during the round, talk during my swing, etc.  The good news is that now, when someone does things like making noise while I'm swinging my accident, it doesn't annoy me unless they're trying to mess me up (which no one has done, at least to my knowledge).
    • In OK, schools are not legally allowed to require masks, even for those who are too young to get vaccinated.  😞 I'm glad to hear that the vaccine can make keys stick to your head.  Maybe it will work on the five simple keys from a while back?
