One of my favorites - Roger Moore, who played James Bond in more films than any other actor, died today in Switzerland at age 89.
Taking on the difficult task of following Sean Connery as 007, over the course of seven films he would make the character his own, paving the way for future runs by Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. From his first film with Elizabeth Taylor to his turn in cult favorite Spice World opposite the Spice Girls, here’s a look back at a dashing career.

British actor Roger Moore played James Bond in a record seven films, more than any other man to date.

He made the role truly his own by using an ironically raised eyebrow, well-timed to go with deadpan quips he delivered with a slight smirk.

Moore once said he had nothing in common with "that cold-blooded killer type," preferring instead to "play (the role) mostly for laughs".

He made his Bond debut at 45 years old in 1973 in "Live and Let Die" and went on to star as the MI6 agent in another six films: "The Man With the Golden Gun" (1974), "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), "Moonraker" (1979), "For Your Eyes Only" (1981) and "Octopussy" (1983) before bowing out after "A View to a Kill" in 1985, when he was 57.

The first Bond movie I saw was "Live and Let Die".    (Jane Seymour was hot!)  I was excited to see James Bond and thought that Roger Moore was a very good Bond.    He's not my favorite but he did the role a solid.

From the land of perpetual cloudiness.   I'm Denny

Sad news

Roger Moore was indeed a very good Bond, much better than any of the Bonds since imo

He was the first James Bond I knew and for years I thought he was the best until got older and started watching the older ones more. In all honesty Daniel Craig is more the James Bond Ian Flemming wrote about and depicted.

One of my first memories of James Bond was my parents unexpectedly showing up at school on like a Thursday afternoon and pulling me out of class early (like second or third grade) to go and see For Your Eyes Only in the theater when it came out. Roger Moore was a good James Bond, a different one, he played 007 his way and did it well,he will be missed.

Imho, your favorite Bond is probably the one you grew up with. Connery though not technically the first was the first Bond. Moore was campy Bond, Dalton was serious Bond, Brosnan, suave Bond, Craig, a return to serious Bond, the buff Bond, reflecting the modern actor who spends a whole lotta time in the gym.

Don't forget Moore also starred in a tv show, The Saint, which was fun, a Bond Robin Hood.

Connery was the first to play Bond on film I thought in Dr. No but I guess they did a tv episode of Casino Royale back in the day?

My mistake, for some reason, I thought some obscure actor played him first, you're right, it was Connery. Lazenby.
