6/10:

Played 9 before the course had an outing.  I was focusing on my set-up.    I will hit the driving range later to work more.

June 10 - 15 minutes of slow driver swings working on my new drill from my Evolvr lesson.  Used my shadow to make sure I was keeping centered on the hip turn. The drill is for me to keep the swing wide on the back swing and narrow on the downswing. Trying to reduce casting.

I also did about 10 minutes of chips and pitches in the yard. My grass is a bit long, so it was like US Open rough. :-P

6/10/17:

So GIR are "king". Yesterday I shot my lowest 9 holes of the year. 38, no birdies, but 7 pars and 2 bogeys. But I hit 4 GIR, 2 Fringes, and the 3 Greens I missed that I couldn't putt were in decent spots except for one.

So I decided today, I would try to build on it. My alignment was a smidge off on a few shots yesterday (they went straight where I was aiming however). So today was get my alignment right day. Just making sure I'm square to the target, as opposed to a little right or left. For the most part the misses are manageable, however, my proximity to the hole needs to be a smidge better. It's getting there. I'm getting close to where I have that 10+ GIR round. It's nice using an 8-iron from 150 yards as opposed to 7-iron (or 6).

6/10: Played 18 today, shot 91. Didn't get much time to warm-up and had trouble finding my swing early on. Had a few quick doubles that dragged down the score right from the start. So, so from there until the back nine when I found a groove, won 8 holes straight and finished, up 3 skins. ;-)

6/10.  I know pre-round range is for warming up, not practicing, but I ignored that this morning.  I wouldn't have played today if it wasn't a club event, and I haven't seen many of the guys in a while.  And I actually hit a good number of good shots during the round anyway.

Okay, what did I do for practice?  All outside, real balls.  Small bucket:  take a backswing, check position.  Reset.   If the previous one was good, take another, but now go slow on the downswing to rehearse that.  If that goes well also, reset and take a swing.

During the round, I tried to check my backswing on the practice swing when I had time, but didn't go through the full above.  I hit enough good shots where I think it was the change, and enough bad ones to remind me why I should plan my practice schedule and playing schedule together.  Hopefully I didn't hurt my progress by doing this.

6/10:  Hit a round of 16 pitch shots in my yard from my 40yd. tees.  Focus was not only inline impact, but also keeping that inline feeling just a little through impact.  Result was very nice: 16 out of 16 hit solid and true, with only 1 pulled about 4 yard left, and 1 pushed ~3 yards right.  I was pleasantly surprised, given the kinda strong bourbon and coke I had just about an hour prior...I was still buzzin' pretty good. ;-)

Later tonight, hit a round of 20 foam balls w/my TourStriker p7i off my mat to my target flag.  Did a little grip check through the set, and main focus was inline impact via feel of my left shoulder driving down through ball to create lag.  Good session.

Finished with 3 sets of 20 full swings w/my OW--really going after it, working on keeping form and balance through an intense S&C session.

Hope to play tomorrow evening after our family reunion tomorrow, but that may be a pipe dream, as we usually end up at family's house for a while afterwards.

6/11/17:

Some 150 yard 8-iron shots mostly focusing on tightening up my shot zone (proximity to the hole needs to be better).

6/11:

Played 18 today.   My goal was to work on Key 1 and 2.   I did the wall drill before playing and it helped with ball contact.   I played the best round of the year.   Maybe there is something to this 5 keys stuff .     I had 8 GIR and another 9 nGIR.   A work in progress..

6/11: Got six holes in this afternoon before the lightning showed up. Four over with 3 pars, 2 singles, and a double. Lots of rain the past week but course was in great shape. Greens are filling in and speeding up (since the aeration a while back)...I knocked three 10-footers almost 5-feet passed the hole, something I almost never do.

Other than that, driver is getting more dependable with each round and irons were working well from the start, which was nice. Also had a couple good shots with my 3W.

    • Day 126 (18 Apr 24) - Trail arm only drill with the LW…focused on letting the club drop, engaging the bounce and letting the club pop the ball up….wrapped up by repeating drill with both hands on the club…
    • OPPs, I guess I have been doing the drill incorrectly, just ignore this.  But as they say, mistakes are learning opportunities. Let’s hope I can learn from mine.
    • Some thoughts after the 1st 9 holes of the year. The driver was pretty good, nothing crazy. My miss seems to be just a push. The start line is a bit too far right for my taste, but they are drawing back at least. Hitting middle-ish of the face to slightly toe. Part of the right miss is a bit of open face and off the toe slightly.  Irons, some really good strikes, others were not so good. I am feeling a few things, when I am being mindful of the swing I made.  1) Got to get the pause down again, and keep things shorter (as usual). One of the best iron shots was when I tried to mimic Rahm's swing length, lol. I caught a flier and hit an 8-iron like 190 yards into an area of no return for that golf ball. The swing felt great 😉  2) I got to stay taller in transition, feel like I gain tons of space between my hands and my chest. The bad swing is the old swing, bad right elbow, tilt to lower the club. This was too much shallowing, and hitting the ball fat. I just think of it this way, you are bent over, and you can reach the ball at address. So, you can reach the ball at impact by getting your hands down.  3) The final thing is the timing. It might take some time to get some flow into the swing. Timing up hands down and the turn is a bit off. Focusing on the hands down kind of stalls everything for me, at least it feels like my hips do not turn. I end up hitting a decent strike, just feels meh athletically, lol.  Short game was Ok, which means pretty good for not practicing it. Not short, but not round destroying.  Putting, doing much better now that I quickened up my routine. Line up, looking at my target. Glance down at the ball to get into my stance. Glance up at my target spot again, then hit the ball with in like 1-2 seconds after looking back down at the ball. Trying not to get to static over the ball while putting.
    • Oh I'm dumb, I just noticed I did the MyStrategy from the wrong tee box. I don't think it changes anything, though. I'll play it as a three shot hole and I still don't really want to miss right (guy I played with on Sunday never found his ball he hit just over the trees right). I think the trees left are considered part of the environmentally sensitive area because it's part of the drainage area for the course. I actually like this hole a lot. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time. I probably overestimated the wind speed. We had sustained winds of like 12-15mph with gusts up to 25mph. The wind is actually forecast to be WNW on Saturday instead of WSW like was when I played on Sunday so if I play this hole again the wind will be pushing towards that bunker. Similar speeds, though. Wind is always a factor at this course because there's really nothing blocking it. I'm definitely going to have to pay attention to it, especially with the wind. I hit a handful of short iron approaches a lot farther than I thought I would on Sunday. As of right now the only thing I know for sure is I'm starting on Ridge. I don't know if the back 9 will be played on Meadow or Lake.
    • Day 113: 4/18/24 Stack training progress check after finishing my 6th program, and 4th Full Speed Spectrum Training session, which is recommended for my next program.     Gained 1 mph with driver, 195 g, 95g. Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
