My son has the first gen Arccos system which he likes. I am leaning towards Game Golf with the reasons being the tag size (even compared to 2nd Gen Arccos) and no batteries in the Game Golf tags. Also the GG Live price is very good, even though I missed the Amazon Prime sale.

Picked up the GG Live this week. Played 9 with it last night and was very happy with it. For me, it was about getting fairly accurate distances and shot direction. I am a high HC so I feel like getting this feedback could help me improve overall. The tapping wasn't a big deal, just have to be mindful if you are rushing around. I did run back to where i hit a few times after forgetting to tag a shot. @ssbn611 I didn't even notice the tags or the belt clip, everything is very lightweight.

One question i did have for the more seasoned users was how are punch shots and greenside bump and runs figured in? If i use a 6-7 iron around the green, does this skew overall stats? I am not worried about it, but just curious.

I currently just use the phone app to tag my shots, but I do plan on getting the belt clip soon.

With regards to the greenside and punch shots, from game golf directly, "Game Golf automatically filters out punch shots and poorly hit shots to calculate the typical distance for each club, provided that you have recorded multiple shots with that particular club."

Looking at your GG profile, it looks like you hit a 7 iron 161 yds, and a 7 iron 32 yds, but it still says your "typical" 7 iron is 161, since it filtered out that 32 yard shot. It does not do an average, because obviously if it did an average, that 7 iron distance would be closer to like 95 yards which clearly isnt an accurate reflection of your 7 iron distance.

I hit my lob wedge 80% of the time I am inside 100 yards, so I have plenty of < 50 yard chips and pitches with it, yet it still says my expected distance with a full swing is 88 yds.

Also, looks like you can generate plenty of distance, nice job! Keep working on those approach shots and driving accuracy and I bet you'll see those scores drop lower.

When you forget to tag, the unit still knows you hit a shot (unless it’s a little chip or putt) and will record it as a stroke, so you don’t have to run back to the location and tag. Just try to remember what club you used and edit the shot later when you review the round. Or edit it on the phone app a few minutes later—between holes or something.

@klineka Thank for the info and words of confidence! I am definitely liking the belt clip, no issues with tagging and accuracy so far (only 18 holes in). I will be interested to see the data once i get an inventory of rounds under my belt.

@missouri swede I actually experienced this yesterday. I was playing a couple balls on a hole and it accounted for the extra shots. Easy enough to go back and edit out and make sure the hole is correct, which is nice.

I've used my GG Live for over 150 rounds of golf. I have some minor issues with it (multiple sets of clubs, putting location, broken tags) but, overall, it is fantastic.  I carried it with my phone for the first year but then realized I just need the device on my belt and remember to tag.  I don't need my phone at all.  I edit my round when I get home.  The best part of GameGolf is their customer support.  They stand behind their product.  Highly recommended.

The device and the tags should be getting delivered to my house tonight!

I had an issue with the original device I bought from ebay, it would only show a red light whenever it was turned on. Tried a ton of troubleshooting steps and couldnt get it to work. Returned it via ebay and found a brand new unit for cheaper than I originally paid for the used unit.

Looking forward to using the belt clip unit on Saturday since it will be cold. I can tell from firsthand experience its not fun to have to manually tag each shot on your phone when its upper 30s/low 40s outside. Should be much easier just to tap my belt and keep my gloves on.

I played a round recently without the belt clip...never again! It wasn't bad, but much more cumbersome using the app to add shots. Quick tip, dont wait until you are on the tee box to try and pair your device to your phone (if you plan on using your phone; I use it as a rangefinder now in place of my garmin watch.) sometimes it can take a minute or so to get it synced up.

Yes, takes a long time. The app is quicker and you can add a tee shot while waiting for your second shot anyway.

I have a question about these 2 products. From what I have seen, you do not need your phone for Game Golf Live, and will therefore not use your phone's GPS (data) or battery life. I read that Arccos uses your phone's GPS, but then also read that you can keep your phone in airplane mode while using. That is a conflict since the phone can't be in airplane mode if the GPS is needed.

Can someone please clarify? I was leaning towards Arccos but if it will use my GPS location/data the whole round, then that is a complete no-go for me.

GPS is active when in airplane mode. On iOS anyway.

The GG is independent of your phone if you want it to be. Even though I have GG Live, for example, I almost never connect it to my phone. I just use it and then edit later on my computer.

I assumed it was not. Googled and found out that ever since iOS 8.3 and later, GPS is not disabled while in airplane mode. Interesting. That would explain why it could still be used in airplane mode though. Thanks for the reply!

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
    • Very much so. I think the intimidation factor that a lot of people feel playing against someone who's actually very good is significant. I know that Winged Foot pride themselves on the strength of the club. I think they have something like 40-50 players who are plus something. Club championships there are pretty competitive. Can't imagine Oakmont isn't similar. The more I think about this, the more likely it seems that this club is legit. Winning also breeds confidence and I'm sure the other clubs when they play this one are expecting to lose - that can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
