Thanks for posting.  It does give a different perspective on things. I have been fortunate to have lived a pretty pain free life and did not suffer a lot if pain after the surgeries I have had.  I would think that unless a person has lived through similar circumstances it is tough to relate.

Quote

“Obviously a lot of people know what happened to Tiger Woods the last few days, few weeks. There’s so many comments, so many opinions. They are so unfair and so disrespectful, in my opinion.”

Woods was asleep at the wheel of his parked car and failed a field sobriety test, according to the police report. The police report also supported Woods’ claim that alcohol was not involved. There was no shortage of opinions or commentary once the news broke, and police released dash camera video of the arrest on Wednesday.

Kaymer was one of few pros to speak at length on the issue, and his heartfelt message mostly addressed the nature of the public reaction.

“He inspired kids, teenagers. He inspired all of us,” Kaymer said. “I find it so nasty that people just kick him while he’s already on the floor, and at the end of the day it’s just using someone else for your own sadness. Yes, he’s in the public eye, he’s in the spotlight a lot, so of course people will talk about him. But why be so nasty? Why don’t you try to do the opposite and help him now in the way he inspired us? … My wish would be, stop being so nasty. Try to help. We all want to see him happier and hopefully one day see him play golf again. That’s my only wish.”

It's human nature that everyone wants to enjoy the perks that come with celebrity, but no one wants to deal with the negatives.  Unfortunately one comes with the other.

Of course reasonable words from Kaymer, but unfortunately "Tiger Woods in an unfortunate predicament, sign his "Get well" list here" doesn't sell as good or give as many clicks as "Tiger Woods reeking of booze swerving all over the road!". And as we've learned, news doesn't have to be real. The situation is real, but what they report doesn't have to be.

Scandals sells. Nice stories doesn't. I'm afraid we can't avoid these kind of situations. Tiger certainly hasn't made it easy for himself with his "scandals", but the media and internet population is relentless in pushing people into the dirt.

We all know what Woods did for purses, the Tour, but he gave the media/press a boost too. We can't see it tangibly, but television licensing and expanded coverage, he made a lot of money for those who work in media.

People love it when you lose,

They love dirty laundry

As much as I have conditioned myself not to trust in the media, I hadn't applied it to the sports area as much. I am annoyed that I believed the report initially, even though it seemed very odd that he would be out doing this. It is just one more chink in the already flimsy armor of the media.

I'm hoping that the fact he was driving means he's improving with the back. I have a herniated disc in my lower back and the sitting position/driving is the absolute worst for pain.

The herniated disc was the previous surgery. This was to alleviate pain. He just can't twist for awhile. Bending minimized. Sitting is okay. You're not bedridden for months.

I see that Tiger once again gets a free pass with many people here. Thank goodness none of their good friends or relatives were in the vicinity while he was driving recklessly around Jupiter. Fortunately all of our good friends and relatives aren't out and about at 3:00 AM.

Bottom line, Tiger has made a complete mess out of what was once a charmed life. Now he apparently is reckless with his use of medication and he really needs help. I hope he gets it.

Note: I believe the release of the video was totally unnecessary and reeks of sensationalism. For the Golf Channel to try and pass it off as "journalism" is ludicrous.

I see that once again Tiger doesn't get any benefit of the doubt from you at all. He was found parked and asleep after having a weird reaction to prescribed medication. He's been charged and will likely suffer the consequences of his actions therein.

I've seen nobody condoning what he did or giving him a "free pass.

And may you never have an unpredictable reaction to medication.

What a life you must lead @phan52 to be able to speak down to Tiger and the commenters here. Where are they building your statue(s)?

Any news yet on where he was coming from?

Purely speculation here, but it sounds like he took his pills and just wanted a nice relaxing drive and then got zonked.  I really think the guy, mainly partly due to the fame, just likes to get away from people and maybe driving is his escape.  Thought he could get a nice little buzz and prolly mixed some pain killers and sleeping pills or some benzo.

Still waiting on the media to start covering the role of opiates in this arrest. I guess the one positive from this is that our beloved Tiger Woods is the first high profile case to be a victim of the opiate epidemic.  Maybe he will bring more media attention to it and start speaking out on it.

Also just have to say I'm very against the release of the dashcam footage.  Can't people have any bit of privacy anymore?  I think the full written report is enough for the public.  Keep the audio and video for court.

It's a double edged sword. So many people want police videos released directly after an incident. There have been protests and riots over the release of police footage.

Now to be fair this is usually involving a use of force incident but so many people distrust the police these days (and sometimes you can't blame them) that it's a common thing to release this footage during a high profile incident.

Also this is an instant gratification culture we live in. Body cams are the new normal for most of law enforcement. I have been somewhat against using mobile recording devices like that. I have absolutely nothing to hide. I just think it's an invasion of privacy during some people's most private and vulnerable moments. It's also just another way Big Brother can monitor us.

It's sad to see Tiger this way. And it honestly does make a difference to me whether someone with a medical issue is driving under the influence versus a partying drunk. Unfortunately in this litigious society everyone must be treated the same. It's also difficult sometimes to differentiate those who are on prescriptions just to get high and those with an actual problem.

Sure, but that doesn't mean they have to. Wouldn't it be ideal if celebrities like Tiger could reap the benefits (money, fame) without all of the negatives (loss of privacy, focus on his personal life).

Good for Kaymer for recognizing that.

Or do you think because he got the benefits, he "deserves" the negatives?

This is similar to the attitude some had about Paige Spirinac and the harassment she received.

Golly, it must be tiring to be so self righteous and perfect. I can really only agree with your last paragraph.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
