I have 1 shot that is absolutely leaps and bounds more heroic than any shot I've ever made in my life... and it happened just about 2 weeks ago.

I'm playing 9 holes after work one day. Nice weather, but I'm playing fairly poorly but not terribly. I'm still enjoying myself. I get to the 9th hole and I'm something like 9 over for the round if I'm remembering correctly. It's a dogleg left 525 yard par 5, uphill, upwind (usually) with a massive grain silo smack at the turn of the dogleg (the signature monument for the course). There's no trees but to "cut the corner;" you have to hit it something about 320 yards from the men's tees to not be in danger - so no way for me. I hit a drive that leaks right, into the handful of trees. Not where you want to be but usually reasonably playable, but it just makes the hole VERY long from there. So I walk up to my ball and it's resting under a tree, "great..." I say to myself. It's sitting back behind the tree on the fairway side of #8 but the trunk itself isn't in my line of sight to get back up and into the fairway. The problem was all of the low branches on the tree. And it was about 15-20 ft. OF those branches between the ball and getting out straight. I though to myself "great... I'm going to have to basically punch out because nothing I have will clear below the branches" (they were very thick, no way to even hope to get through them). Then I said to myself "I'd need like 10 degrees of loft to get under there. Then I looked at my bag and said... "this is my moment." Look back down at the ball, it's slightly above my feet... sitting perched on some light rough. I look down the line and I say to myself "how could I NOT hit driver here???" Grab my driver, line her up, and BAMMMM! I hit a B-E-A-UTIFUL bullet right up under the branches, no contact, and split the fairway in two. AND hit it about 250 yards! In excellent shape to easily get on in 3 (which I did, AND sank the birdie putt!). It was a great end to my round. I had never even attempted to hit driver off the deck up to that point, and I've been playing a few years now. I don't think I'll ever top that shot. It was just too beautiful, like a unicorn in my game.

This one stands above the rest for me: I holed-out for eagle on a Par 4 from 130 yards away at a tough Pete Dye course at sunset. My wife had just given me a few flashing balls as a present. The fairway was at least 30-40 feet higher than the green, and I watched that flashing ball land on the front of the green and flash all the way into the hole, with one of my best friends there as a witness to boot.

My previous longest shot was from about 65 yards away uphill, but I didn't get to see it because of the uphill grade. Being lucky enough to see the entire great shot adds a ton to the experience. I still remember the spin and the route that it took into the hole. Too bad that course closed, I'd love to visit the scene of the crime again.

I don't recall any truly heroic shots, I've hit plenty of good ones and bad ones.  But the most memorable one, would've been the first time I played in the Greater Bangor Open as an Amatuer.  First round I shot 72 and was in second by 1.  For the second round I shot 76 and had dropped to third but only two back.  For the third round they start on 10 and finish on 9 as it is a better hole to  watch the play come in.

So the 10th hole is about 380 with OB right and high fescue rough left.  As I draw the ball,  normally start it down the right side and draw it back to the fairway.  This day however, my ball doesn't draw and OB it goes.  After everyone hits, my second ball goes further right OB.  Take out my 3 wood and hit some slappy hook almost into the fescue.  Get it near the green hit bad chip, make a smooth 9.  Second hole on back was a 220 yd par 3, hit it into bunker (buried) barely get out and on the green.  50 foot putt and I three put so I'm 7 over going to third hole. Par 12-17 and I'm standing on 9 (Normally 18) at 7 over, 18 is a par 5 that they play as a Par 4 in the tournament.  OB left, so i favor the right side and hit a push off the tee into the trees right, figuring I'm now pretty much out of it, a spectator finds my ball.  I punch it into the fairway, with about 150 yds to the green.  The 18th green has two large mounds in the middle of it.  Hard to get it close and there are lots of people watching.  I hit the best 9-iron I can remember, it drew right between the two mounds took a couple of hops and stopped a foot from the hole, tap in 4 for a 41.

Shot 37 on the front to finish 5th, but after the start, that 9-iron saved the day for me.

Not sure I'd call this heroic, but it definitely counts as the best "climb out of the grave," shot I've hit in awhile.  Get to 18 which is a 180 yard par 3 across a pond with a severely sloped green (pin was right in the middle of this slope).  I've played pretty well to this point and state that as long as I don't get a 6 on this hole I'll break 80.  Hit my tee shot and push it off to the right into the green side bunker, no big deal.  Proceed to blade the bunker shot (bounced the wedge off of hard sand) 67 yards over the back left edge of the green and back over the cart path into very heavy rough....hitting 3.  Take a full swing with my 58* the ball goes about 40 yards, still in the rough....hitting 4.  With the pin placement I was very easily looking what could be a 15-20 foot putt for my 5 even with a decent pitch shot, I was falling apart at a rate I didn't think possible.

So I pick a spot on the green that I think will funnel it around to where the hole is, hit the pitch and it's right where I wanted it to be.  The ball rolls 3 feet, catches the hill and begins its journey.  It takes about 20 seconds to trickle down the hill and fall right in the hole for what could either be described as the best or worst bogey of my life.  Shot a 78 that day :-).

    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
    • Most the stuff I found on Instagram and just copy and mix it up. a few of my favorites: Clean>Squat>Press> March Around the body >catch >Squat> press I also hold a the kettle bell upside down with both hands on the handle. Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
    • Not sure this is the best thread but, if the rain holds off, today is my 1st round of the year.  Getting ready I can not find my Shot Scope.  I guess I put it away too well for the winter and thus that is may "Winter Depression".  I'm sure I put it somewhere that made sense at the time.
    • 44+39 for an 83. Figuring stuff out.
    • Day 288 - putted on my mat for a while listening to a presentation. Checking my head movement in the mirror, then just focusing on a good stroke.
