What's Your favorite club and why?

Would like to know more about types and brands of clubs? I'm new to the lifestyle and well I can read reviews till I bleed from the eyes but actual users and reasons would be a great help.   I personally like my irons (ping eye2's blue dot). I can hit them straight and each club up or down I can get about 10 yards plus or minus. 60-75% I hit them where I pray they go.  I know there old as dirt but they hit nice and well just starting I figure I'll upgrade next season. Kinda why I'm looking for input.

I have a tour edge bazooka QL 11 degree driver. Still trying to figure that monster out and a Ben Hogan 3 hybrid but have not hit it yet. I also have an older odyssey white hot putter with a fat grip.

My favorite club is a pitching wedge.  The one I'm using, at present, has 47 degrees of loft...about the same as my old 9 iron.  I've always preferred a bit less loft to a bit more and tend to leave the loftier wedges short...particularly so when pitching and chipping.  Wide open it is very effective for longer bunker shots and much easier to gauge since I use it often.  Other than that (i.e. if I hit more greens) my answer would be a 5 wood.

Awesome.  Getting the hang of mine. The 1st hole of the par 3 I play sometimes is 104 yards and it's great to use my wedge. For closer shots I've been trying my 5 iron and giving a little boop and hopping it on the green and letting it roll up. I also have a mallet chipper that works great for just off the green. Thanks for the input. What brand of wedge you using?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you are hoping to hear about which brands people like and the reasons.

when I saw the title, I also thought you wanted to know which club we liked to hit- as in 8-iron or whatever. (My fave, by the way)

I can edit the title, if that's correct. My guess is that you'll find that we each find different brands appealing for all very personal reasons.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

BTW, I'd sleep with my wedges if they wouldn't poke me in the side when I rolled over! :-D

It changes but at present I covet Mizuno irons and Titleist woods & hybrids. Maybe Callaway then Taylor Made, nothing else on my radar at present (and I've tried others). But club choice is very personal, most brands make great clubs these days, there are no right or best answers. My swing will always be a WAY bigger determinant of my score than any brand/model of club, and has been for over 50 years. I'm playing with 20 year old irons, and new irons probably won't make much if any difference in my scoring...

Sorry for the confusion, but was more interested in the particular club or clubs than the brand. I heard an interview with Lee Trevino at Greenbrier and got me remembering a video I watched years ago call the one club challenge and they had to use just one club to play, it was interesting and humorous to watch. So I posted this thread. I have a mixed bag of clubs and not a one is new.  Medium irons are my go to when I can't hit squat.  FYI I got my irons at a garage sale 1-9 and sw,lw and pw all for $5.00. Had to get 1-3 regripped but all others had arthritic grips but I like them.   Hope this clears up confusion. Or am I the confused one? Hummm?

I've been using Maltby wedges since I began repairing clubs back in '97 or so.  I have the TE irons (5 - GW) and a Tricept 54 and 58.  That's just the tip of the iceberg.  There are Vokey, Cleveland, Callaway, Taylormade, Toney Penna, PGA, Mizuno, and a few oddities, scattered strategically around the house.

I would say it's a toss up between My Edel putter and my ping glide 58° wedge. I've hit a lot of awesome shots around the green with that wedge. The putter is amazing I am so confident with it. I've made more putts with that thing since I've owned then I can count.  Made a nice 12 ft or so birdie putt with it today.

My favorite club is the 8 iron. I chip with it, and for some reason get a lot of approaches really close with it.

One of my favorite shots is golf is drawing an 8 iron back against a left-to-right crosswind. It seems to hit, do a little dance, and just stop.

The 8i has been the best club in my last three sets of irons. :-D

I've never had a single favorite club in 52 years. I guess I'm most confident with middle irons, say 5 through 8. I've had great shots with every club in the bag, just slightly fewer with some than others.

52 years golfing. I bet you've seen a bit of change in club design and innovation. Has the advancements help your game? Or was there an older club that you felt was as good or better than some of the newer stuff?   I'm 54 and just starting but very much in love with the game.

I'm going to buy new irons, but I'm still using 20 year old 2-SW irons, and I don't expect new GI irons will make much difference. The delofting that's taken place with irons is disappointing IMO, and I don't buy the low CG/launch angle argument for delofting. Modern GI irons aren't longer, they're just jacked up lofts.

I do have new Driver-3-5 "woods." I don't hit them any longer than my old TM metal woods, but the driver especially is probably marginally more forgiving with the huge head. It was a bigger step from persimmons to metals IMO, forgiveness and distance.

My poor shots are 95% a bad pass at the ball, and 5% the club - and that has only changed a little despite all the marketing hype.

My Callaway X Hot 5 and 6 hybrids replaced the 5i and 6i and have me on the green from 140 - 160 yards out more often than in many years.

7 iron. I never miss with the 7 iron. It's the only truly safe club in my bag.

Except left. **** you left.

None, they all betray me at one time or another....

Edit** Ok, I'll be fair, even lately with my troubles my 7 and 8 iron are pretty much tied for reliability followed closely by my putter... Or if I'm really being honest, my putter has been my best friend as of late, saving me quite a few strokes.
