Why aren't you playing more golf?

  1. 1. What are the obstacles that are preventing you from playing more golf?

    • Lack of available time
    • It's tough to get my buddies together
    • Too expensive
    • I don't have a lot of people to play with, and I don't like playing as a single
    • If I played any more golf my spouse would divorce me
    • If I were a better golfer I think I'd play more often
    • Nothing is stopping me, I play as much golf as I want

Cost, time, and (sometimes) motivation. Plus the weather that keeps me indoors half the year.

Life.

I play with the Senior group at my club, but I'm one of the unretired. So, golf ends up on page 2 of my cosmic agenda sometimes.

The courses I play are all $150-200 per round. There are no local municipal courses with reasonable rates. They do have local/resident rates that are reasonable For 18 holes, but for 9 holes it is still a lot to pay.

Growing up I was a member at a course and being able to play 4 or 6 holes in the evening without feeling obligated to "get your money's worth" was such a luxury. And later in life the courses around me all had 9 hole rates.

I can go and hit the range and the practice area and putting green for 2 hours after work, but I can't justify paying an 18 hole rate to play 9 holes.

Thats really the only thing stopping me from playing holes everyday. If only we just had a simple, modestly maintained municipal course with a $25 nine hole rate after 4 pm.

I would still say time. Although this year, injuries have limited me.

As an empty nester and having a wife who loves to play golf as much as I do, I play as much as I want.  Only thing that stops me from playing every day would be the weather.

1. Work - transitioning from engineering to management... so doing 2 jobs for a while and often times staying pretty late which means no summer evening rounds

2. School for MBA, most evenings are shot

3. House projects, most weekends are shot

The last thing I'm holding on to is my Saturday morning group, but I think I'll even have to cut that back to every other week to make time.

I don't even have kids yet... wife is preggo too so when the baby comes I'll probably be at zero golf.

I practice as much as i want to, ones or twice a week. But i just can hit the course during weekends, so 0 to 2 times depending on the weather.

My ideal week would be 1 practice day and 3 or 4 rounds at the golf course.

There should be an option for "Health related" because I think that is a big reason especially for the older members.  Nagging injuries including lower back pain, tennis elbow and general body soreness keep me from playing more golf.

That's a great point.  Sorry I overlooked this in the possible poll answers.  Thanks for your feedback.

When I was single, I would cook all my meals for the week on Sundays while I watched football. I would do all my cleaning in one shot on Saturday morning, and all my shopping right after work on Friday (when nobody was at the grocery store). I had a phenomenal system that required discipline, but afforded me big chunks of maximum free time throughout the week and in the evenings.

As a married man, my wife says I can play golf whenever I want, but I know that’s not really true. So, I’m careful not to take advantage, and I choose my spots carefully. Sometimes that means I don't play for 2 or 3 weeks. Sometimes I get to play twice a week; any more than that and the tone at home changes.

I'm in a similar situation.  My wife has never said I can't play, but I also don't choose to push my luck.  I love the routine you had while single.  I might try to work those into my life, I could use a little more discipline.

Sincerely, Art

A fullllll-time job, two young kids and a wife I would like to stay married to... Having said that, I play once a week through most of the summer and couple of times a month even through winter, so from my perspective, not bad, especially since I play 12 months a year.

Yes, and I could finish rounds in an hour since we would abandon rounds after 5 holes routinely...!! Win -win! :-D

Right now, it's the heat.   It's 97 degrees down here.   July and August in Jacksonville is like January and February in Indiana.  You don't even want to go outside, much less play a round of golf.   Also, I've been traveling for the last 2 months.

I'll probably get to the practice range on Friday morning early, though.

Alternatively your kids might get into it, start doing tournaments and you'd be too busy doing their stuff to play anyway :-)
