Hey, if they conform to LPGA rules, they should be fine on United. Rimshot. :-O

Quote
  • Racerback with a mock or regular collar are allowed (no collar = no racerback)
  • Plunging necklines are NOT allowed.
  • Leggings, unless under a skort or shorts, are NOT allowed
  • Length of skirt, skort, and shorts MUST be long enough to not see your bottom area (even if covered by under shorts) at any time, standing or bent over.
  • Appropriate attire should be worn to pro-am parties. You should be dressing yourself to present a professional image. Unless otherwise told “no,” golf clothes are acceptable. Dressy jeans are allowed, but cut-offs or jeans with holes are NOT allowed.
  • Workout gear and jeans (all colors) NOT allowed inside the ropes
  • Joggers are NOT allowed

Sun sleeves first became popular among the female golfers with Asian ties.

What's that got to do with anything @WUTiger? They're not cracking down on sun sleeves (nor requiring them).

I'm not the biggest fan of some of the short stuff they're wearing. But, I have a daughter, so… :-P

The point is that they want to be seen as professionals, or at least those in charge want them to be seen that way, not as hot chicks with short shorts and part of their buttcheeks hanging out, or a bunch of cleavage popping out.

I tend to agree. I think that you should dress for the job you want, rather than the job you have. The LPGA should dress a bit more conservatively and professionally to attract the slightly more conservative, professional audience they want, and the sponsors they want, and the fans they want.

Part of it could be health-related. Sunburn of the lower cheeks could lead to skin cancer?

No…

Point being, @iacas, many players were wearing them for protection from the sun, not because the LPGA officials suggested the sun sleeves as a modesty item under tank tops. One of the pictures in the online story showed Michelle Wie wearing sun sleeves, implying they were primarily a modesty item.

Lately, however, Wie has been wearing sun sleeves to cover up her arms, most likely in an effort to appease those who are offended by her bare shoulders.

I don't mind leggings under a skirt, but they could be wearing pants instead. It does the job with...you know...keeping the sun away.

I really don't see a lot wrong with the way the ladies dress right now, but I guess I understand the reason behind the rule changes. I'm thinking the change is just to keep things classier in appearance.

After all its the LPGA not the bikini golf at the local club for charity.

The golf channel is going to start covering the senior LPGA.......maybe they just want to get out in front of the issue.

She wasn't wearing sun sleeves until recently, so I don't think she was doing it for protection. Likely she was told "uhhh, stop wearing bathing suit tops please…".

A lot of the Asian players wear them because in their culture, tans are a symbol of lower class workers who are working outside in the sun all day, while the higher class folks are inside doing business, etc.

Saw this comment on the topic elsewhere, and it seems like a reasonable explanation:

There's another issue: the game as a whole is trying to market itself to women as participants and consumers of equipment and clothing.

So the LPGA needs to be marketing itself to women as viewers. I'd bet some market research was done and enough women said 'I wouldn't let my daughter wear that, and I don't really want to look at it on someone else's either' that they decided this was prudent.

Many of the LPGA players have taken to YouTube where they can wear whatever they prefer anyway. I haven't followed any of them, but some of them push the envelope and then some off the tour. The new guidelines seem reasonable, not that restrictive, but to each his/her own.

There are no specific rules, but I still don't understand being looked down on in the local senior mens league if I don't wear a collared golf polo tucked in, with a belt and dress shorts (vs anything even remotely cargo). But I comply every week, it's not worth a fuss and not a big deal in the overall.

Dude, move on.

Yes.....let's keep up the appearance of golf being a stuffy sport. That will grow the game

Telling professional golfers to make sure their ass cheeks are not hanging out of their shorts or skirts will do nothing to stifle the growth of the game or make golf "stuffy."

Jeez.

Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.

Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends.
