LPGA To Enforce more Strict Dress Code

Hey, if they conform to LPGA rules, they should be fine on United. Rimshot.

• Appropriate attire should be worn to pro-am parties. You should be dressing yourself to present a professional image. Unless otherwise told “no,” golf clothes are acceptable. Dressy jeans are allowed, but cut-offs or jeans with holes are NOT allowed.
• Workout gear and jeans (all colors) NOT allowed inside the ropes
• Joggers are NOT allowed

I'm not the biggest fan of some of the short stuff they're wearing. But, I have a daughter, so…

The point is that they want to be seen as professionals, or at least those in charge want them to be seen that way, not as hot chicks with short shorts and part of their buttcheeks hanging out, or a bunch of cleavage popping out.

I tend to agree. I think that you should dress for the job you want, rather than the job you have. The LPGA should dress a bit more conservatively and professionally to attract the slightly more conservative, professional audience they want, and the sponsors they want, and the fans they want.

Point being, @iacas, many players were wearing them for protection from the sun, not because the LPGA officials suggested the sun sleeves as a modesty item under tank tops. One of the pictures in the online story showed Michelle Wie wearing sun sleeves, implying they were primarily a modesty item.

I really don't see a lot wrong with the way the ladies dress right now, but I guess I understand the reason behind the rule changes. I'm thinking the change is just to keep things classier in appearance.

After all its the LPGA not the bikini golf at the local club for charity.

The golf channel is going to start covering the senior LPGA.......maybe they just want to get out in front of the issue.

She wasn't wearing sun sleeves until recently, so I don't think she was doing it for protection. Likely she was told "uhhh, stop wearing bathing suit tops please…".

A lot of the Asian players wear them because in their culture, tans are a symbol of lower class workers who are working outside in the sun all day, while the higher class folks are inside doing business, etc.

Saw this comment on the topic elsewhere, and it seems like a reasonable explanation:

Many of the LPGA players have taken to YouTube where they can wear whatever they prefer anyway. I haven't followed any of them, but some of them push the envelope and then some off the tour. The new guidelines seem reasonable, not that restrictive, but to each his/her own.

There are no specific rules, but I still don't understand being looked down on in the local senior mens league if I don't wear a collared golf polo tucked in, with a belt and dress shorts (vs anything even remotely cargo). But I comply every week, it's not worth a fuss and not a big deal in the overall.

I think that people are making new rules/laws to justify their continued need as rule/lawmakers.
