A couple quick thoughts/questions..........

First.....was Thursday/Friday televised?  I looked yesterday at the GC lineup and saw only the seniors tourney....if GC wasn't televising, who did?

Second......I think big frenchy moves the needle a bit, no?

Question.........Scottish Open or John Deere?......my answer is both, but that is a cop out

It might just be me, but does anyone else find themselves actively rooting against Bryson DeChambeau?

Yes, I do.  I'm not usually a passionate person but I really hate this guy and can't bring myself to watch/listen to this event or read golf websites because he'll be there. And that goes for future tournaments as well.

I hate the whole "golfing scientist" BS.  He didn't name himself that, but he actively embraced it.  He is not a scientist.  He's a college drop out with a few years of under graduate science courses.

The scientist could knock that in and steal this tournament.

Hard not to root for him after that finish.

Golf Scientist has it in the bag now. No need to hit balks. You could tell Rodgers was leaking oil behind the sunglasses.

And that, boys and girls, is what happens when I root against someone! ;-)

He's still a schmuck. :-)

Scientist?  I'll save that title for someone with more than a High School diploma. ;-)

Congrats to Bryson...I know some don't like his methods or attitude but you can't deny that he deserved it with that finish.  He's played well his last few tournaments so this wasn't a total shock.

Curious to see what this brings down the stretch...

Fairways and Greens.

No he didn't.

http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1936731_1936743_1936758,00.html

In 1935, a rabbi in Princeton showed him a clipping of the Ripley's column with the headline "Greatest living mathematician failed in mathematics." Einstein laughed. "I never failed in mathematics," he replied, correctly. "Before I was fifteen I had mastered differential and integral calculus." In primary school, he was at the top of his class and "far above the school requirements" in math. By age 12, his sister recalled, "he already had a predilection for solving complicated problems in applied arithmetic," and he decided to see if he could jump ahead by learning geometry and algebra on his own. His parents bought him the textbooks in advance so that he could master them over summer vacation. Not only did he learn the proofs in the books, he also tackled the new theories by trying to prove them on his own. He even came up on his own with a way to prove the Pythagorean theory.

270 yard 3-wood out of the rough onto the green to put for eagle isn't too shabby even for a scientist.

He didn't graduate from college as you've noted. He is not a scientist or physicist as some have eluded. That title goes to folks who've put in the work.

As a follower (and sometimes critic) of the OWGR - I was somewhat surprized to see that DeChambeau rose up to 81st in this weeks OWGR, the amazing part is that he has only earned points in 19 events. If you go to a players owgr page they list the top 20 events in which they have earned points for their career. And for Byson his 20th best owgr event is his 2017 US Open missed cut.

Players play, tough players win!

    • I’ve recently started KBs too and really enjoy it. I have one day of armour building complex and one day of a mobility routine. Adding in a speed training day too.    which routines do you do @Elmer
    • Again, I’m not an expert so take it with a grain of salt My question is whether laying back even further becomes too conservative and that strategy is suboptimal as a result? Essentially what’s the cost of guaranteed longer second shot vs the x% risk for hitting the bunker? I think the optimal way to answer the question is looking at strokes gained, in consideration of the hazards and penalties, and picking the strategy that maximizes SG off the tee. I’ve seen some apps that do this but I’m not sure how accurate they are.   And again, asking all this so I can learn what I should be doing in these situations rather than questioning your approach Bill. I would give an example of the course I’m joining this year where I plan to aim at the bunker, but I don’t want to take over your swing thread any further!
    • What @DeadMan said. From the satellite it looks like there's tall grass to the right, long of the fairway post-dog-leg. But left it just looks like regular rough all the way to the neighboring tee boxes. If that's true I'm aiming left edge of the green and bombs away every time, hoping for a 30-70 yard up and down opportunity.
    • What's the case against blasting a driver at the green? I'm guessing it puts the penalty area/fescue too much into play, but if that's just standard rough around the green, there would be a good case for it. If it's not driver, then I agree with your approach. The one thing I would add is to shade your aim towards the bunkers vs. center of the fairway. Hitting out of a bunker is (marginally) better than a penalty drop.
    • Yes, if you are gonna layup, then layup. No need to nickle and dime a few extra yards and bring bunker back into play.
