Getting into PURE Grips

Yeah, not a big deal obviously, but it's weird, right?  And odd that they'd show it on the site as an actual "thing".

I'm strangely intrigued by this now, and I'm trying to figure out why.

Here's a post from 2013 (from another forum, found on Google) that mentions it, so it's nothing new.  "The white grips are always the heaviest".

It’s not weird to me, but I already knew about different dyes having different chemical makeups (and thus why manufacturers can’t just go and make golf balls whatever color they want).

It might be odd for them to show it on their website but I’m happy for the transparency.

Any $100 job from Home Depot/Lowes will do. The smallest "real" air compressor. Unless you plan on doing home improvement stuff that requires a more powerful one.

I just ordered the set of 13 grips through Amazon.  Will see when they get here what they include.

No, it would affect swing weights and stuff, so people want to know what a grip weighs. And then they weigh it themselves, but still… if you're replacing one grip with another, you might want to match it up. Or go lighter or heavier on purpose.

I'm not sure if this is the correct thread, but I was looking for new grips today and noticed this:

It seems like the weight for the grips changes...by color?!?  Seemed so strange.

Pigments have different chemical make up and can require varied addition amounts to get the desired color. White is usually titanium dioxide, which is metallic and needs more to get the white they want. The green pigment is probably very effective in small amounts, so it doesn’t add much weight. Black and gray could have carbon black.

The colorant suppliers have pallets that they work with and provide the materials to the molding companies to get the color match. In molding, the colorant is blended with the plastic or rubber in a hopper prior to melting and molding. In plastics, it is usually a pigment because the color is dispersed and is not really soluble in the plastic. Dyes dissolve and are used in more fluid applications. They are either water or oil soluble depending on the product.

I’ve been thinking about rebuilding my clubs with white ferrules and purple grips for a while 🤔

FYI @boogielicious  titanium dioxide is not metallic.  Also green pigment sucks because it does not have any hide power so it takes a lot of it to get hide, just opposite of what you might think.

Paint gets it's ability to hide from white and black pigments, those greens and blues just suck in hide.

This will be a fun winter project. I bought 13, which is enough to do my irons and wedges, plus 8-PW on my MP4s because I’ve been tossing the idea of playing a combo set around for a while. Now I just need to order some ferrules.

Did anyone else get the e-mail from Pure about the new Combo grip? Half DTX/half Pro texture, and reduced taper, assuming this is similar to the MCC +4 grip.

Available January next year in black - I might order a couple to try out.

I just sent them an email about that. I asked about it in March and they said they were prototyping it. It was going to be a reduced taper. I’m excited about it.

    • Since the pandemic, the gym I use has either been closed or limited to 25% (now 10%) capacity.  In order to be able to workout, you have to call and make a reservation.  I did that up until November, when it became harder to reserve a workout time.   So I ended up buying a home gym set with weights, cage, and a bench.  Now I workout at home without any hassle of putting on a mask, making reservations, and wiping down the equipments. Anyone else end up buying a home gym set due to Covid?
    • I never understood why people do that, especially on a golf course where a large amount of fertilizer is often used.  Besides, that is just disgusting no matter where one does it.
    • TLDR; Who here can actually say they did not yell something inappropriate when they got mad?  Granted JT should always presume he is on camera when playing in a tournament.  But let's be serious, I normally don't swear and don't like people who do just for the sake of swearing.  But when I get mad or upset, I will be the first one to say something inappropriate.   IMHO, it's just a human nature. I think JT said it without thinking.  Maybe that's what he says when he is upset.  When I am upset, I say "D@mn it!"  Just my choice of word when upset.   I wouldn't take anything from anyone who is upset.
    • This is what I do. Clearly I need to do something else.
    • That was a very well thought out and intelligently formulated response.  Of course, I know that marketing departments have to kneel to the legal departments. I remember a similar case study about the use of the word "whitening" in toothpaste ads or on the packaging. Incidentally, P&G was smack in the middle of that one, but this time came out on top.  I can still giggle at them though. "Oh man, I have to run out to Golf Galaxy and get the new Taylormade irons!"  .... "Haven't you heard? They have improved playability!" ... "I've been saying for years that I wish somebody would improve the playability of my irons!"  Interestingly enough, "Improved Workability" was often used quite a lot in the article. I kind of feel like I know what that means though. When I see "Improved Workability" I hear "Less Forgiving".
