Predict the Winner of the 2017 PGA Championship
with The Sand Trap and Snell Golf!

WHO do you think will WIN the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow and what SCORE will they shoot?

PLEASE READ the rules thoroughly. Each contest people are disqualified for simple mistakes.

To enter, post your answer right here in this thread along with the bold that says why YOU choose to play the Snell ball that you prefer to play. For example, "I expect a lot out of my golf ball, so I play the Snell My Tour Ball for the best performance I can get."

Note as always that you are NOT predicting who will finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd; you are picking three players to win and the score(s) they will shoot. The first choice carries tremendous weight (see the rules below for more), while the second and third choices exist simply in case we don't have a winner selected by anyone's first selection.

The Prizes

First Place

One first-place winner will win a prize pack from Snell Golf that includes:

MY TOUR BALL is our 3-piece, tour caliber golf ball engineered to provide outstanding tee to green performance, with a mission to enhance scoring for golfers of all skill levels.

The Core has been developed with a very low compression, soft feel, with high velocity to help with ball speed regardless of swing speed and creates low driver spin rates for longer distances.

The Mantle layer works on longer shots to keep control of the spin, and works with the thin soft cast urethane cover on shorter irons and chip shots to create higher spin rates for better control into the green.

The Cover layer is made of a thermoset cast urethane, tour proven cover. This technology allows very thin covers for better short game spin control, and is very soft and durable.

Second Place

The second-place winner will win one dozen MTB golf balls.

The Rules

- All qualifying entries must be received no later than Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Midnight eastern time zone (New York City).
- Winners will be notified within 48 hours of the completion of The 2017 PGA Championship and will have 48 hours after notifications are sent to claim their prize.
- You must have a shipping address within the 50 United States of America or Canada.
- You must be a registered member of The Sand Trap in good standing.
- You must be aged eighteen (18) or older as of the date of entry.
- Your answer must include 1) the visible and bold text as described above,
 2) the FULL NAME (first and last, for the purposes of proper and unique identification) and 3) the score in relation to par (+2, -4, E, etc.) of the player you are predicting to win the 2017 PGA Championship, as well as your 2nd and 3rd choices (same rules apply - full name, score in relation to par).
- The Winner will be selected as the first person in the contest to correctly pick both the winner and the score. The runner up will be the second person to correctly pick the winner and score or be the first person to pick closest to the winner/score.
- Two (2) entries per person and per household. The second entry is only allowed the week of the PGA Championship (Monday, August 7 through Wednesday, August 9). Any additional entries or modifications invalidate all entries.
- If we suspect fraud of any kind - suspicious multiple entries, for example - we reserve the right to award the prize to the next valid entry in the order established above.

Details regarding the green, underlined rule:

  • It's very simple. The winner is the first person (who satisfies the other rules) to choose the correct winner and score with their first choice. If nobody picks the correct score, the winner is the first person to have the closest score for the correct winner. If nobody chooses the correct winner with their first choice, we repeat the process for everyone's second choice, and then the third.
  • In other words, if someone chooses Joe Smith for their first choice - at any score - and you choose him for your second choice, you've wasted your second choice.
  • Think of your picks like draft picks. Your second and third choices should be someone you don't think will be chosen in the first "round."

Winners will have 48 hours to claim their prize after being notified..

Again, please read the details about how to go about entering the contest and picking players. Don't pick top ten players for your 2nd and 3rd picks. Example for this contest would look like this:

I play the Get Sum by Snell Golf because it helps me "get sum" of my buddy's money!

1) Old Tom Morris -3
2) Francis Ouimet +2
3) Gene Sarazen -5

Also note… you get two entries into this contest, but you have to wait until the Monday of the PGA Championship (and enter before the end of the day Wednesday, August 9th) to submit your second entries.

I used to post an example of why the bad entries were bad and  track how many entries were voided at the time they were made; it was funny and sad all at once.
I like that Iacas has included the 2nd set of picks, which will be interesting the week of the event because the field will be finalized. I always thought it was a dilemma to pick early and then others can pick my 2nd or 3rd pick as their first and effectively void my picks, at least now I can wait until the end for the last selection and get some random PGA club pro for the win.

I'm a big fan of these contests, because I'm still playing the driver I won when Jordan took the US Open title at Chambers Bay.

You can also exploit "holes" in the existing predictions.

If you think Old Tom Morris will win the PGA Championship and he's been picked at -7, -8, -9, -10, -11, -13, -14, -15, and -16… you could take him at -12 and you'd be the first one with the correct score if he won with a score of -12.

And my PGA club pro comment was meaning they might be the among the only remaining valid choices for 3rd picks.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
