As long as they don't show the Protracer on every shot, that's great news. Every now and then is good, but could see them going overkill...

I'll take protracer every single shot (maybe not putts)

Same.

Wow, quiet thread today. Elk 2.0 aka Grayson Murray with the lead after after the morning wave (so far). He'll no doubt implode. Looking forward to see what Rory can do under the bright lights in a few minutes.

I'm watching at the moment but I'm having a hard time getting excited about this event. Not that I'm ever that excited for the PGA, but my interest is especially low at the moment. If Spieth is in contention this weekend or if there's another good story line, I suppose that could change.

It looks almost like a US Open setup with the greens the way they are. Thing with the PGA is that the field is so huge, I find it spreads my interest out a bit... I think I'll be more into it come Saturday and Sunday

Yea, perhaps all the more reason to move this thing to May. We all have battle fatigue from the British still haha. But yea, the poor PGA has no epic marketable identity like the other three, although I did enjoy the "Glory's Last Shot" tagline they used to use.

Still, it's interesting it's a familiar venue in Quail Hollow. Hopefully we get a good leaderboard this weekend to spark some interest... but if this thread is any indication, the TV ratings might not be great again.

For the first time CBS will have Trackman on all 18 holes, cranking out data such as ball speed and curvature, and wireless Toptracer technology to track approach shots.

“I’m most excited that we can use the technology on all 18 holes,” Sean McManus, chairman of CBS Sports, said during a conference call last week.

CBS also plans to use: ARL Virtual Eye, which shows Trackman tracing of ball flight over a hole graphic adjacent to live shots of players hitting tee shots; bunker cameras; a cable-mounted camera tracking action on the practice range and 4K coverage on DirecTV of the final three holes.

Guessing this is partially motivated by Fox's broadcast. Competition is a good thing?

Maybe - I certainly think that moving it to May is a great move. The (British) Open thread was pretty quiet early doors as well, so I wouldn't be too worried for now.

And here comes Rors. I wish I could give up rooting for him - it just never ends well at the moment.

Actually I just googled it and the British ratings were the highest since 2009 because of Spieth, but I do recall the US Open ratings being abysmal.

Yea, I'm rooting for Rory too, despite @skydog's never-ending naysaying lol :-P

I'm interested but can't watch it while I'm at work.  The scoreboard is just numbers so not much to comment on, except that Grayson Murray had the first tee time (7:20) and it looked like he finished after 12:30.  Is that correct or was that lag between when he finished and the pgatour.com leaderboard got updated?

I just thought the USGA didn't really stick to what that major is all about this year. I loved the US Open at Chambers Bay, Oakmont and Pinehurst, but Erin Hills really didn't do it for me. I've never seen a tournament at Shinnecock Hills, but I will certainly watch all of Pebble in 2019 - that does excite me.

Actually, with the PGA at Bethpage Black as well and the Open at Royal Portrush for the first time, 2019 should be a great year for Majors!

Sounds about right. It's not been quick and the McIlroy/Fowler/Rahm grouping were at least 10 minutes behind schedule when they went off twenty minutes ago. I think they've only played the first as well in that time...

I always worry about Rory on fast greens for putts like that - never even close...

I'm at work too, Caught a few slow minutes so I set up my iPhone to stream one featured group and my iPad with another featured group.  Figure I'll double-time it for a while.:bugout:

Too bad I can't get a third stream going on my Apple watch.

Is there not proper coverage on CBS yet? We have full coverage on BBC - the footage is great, commentary is pitiful.

It's on TNT.  There's a TNT app and also a PGA Championship app to cover it here.

True. You're not missing much really, although Brooks Koepka apparently nailed a guy off the tee earlier today.

Yea the upcoming slate of venues is looking good.

Definitely an odd top of the leaderboard. Names from out of nowhere, with the exception of Koepka. Seems like many of big guys are anywhere from -1 to +1 right now. Really want to see Rory and Jordan in contention this weekend. Would be fun to watch seeing Rory trying to get back in the major winning circle and Jordan go for the Slam. Been a long time since we've really seen Rory contend on a sunday in a major. Gotta go back to 2014, really.

    • This is pretty much how I look at it.  I understand there are times when the piece of mind has value. I think over the long haul I'm money ahead by never buying the extended warrantee. Hell, What do I know? I went to Ch!cago PubIic SchooIs.

    • On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
    • You may be able to find a regular flex Blueboard on the second hand market. I’m little more than half your age so I swing a shaft that launches pretty low so I don’t have a lot of experience with Regular flex (other than when I try to hit it I miss way to the left).    There are other shafts, such as the newer Ping Alta that I’ve heard good things about. And one that no one talks about. The Jupiter shaft. You can get this shaft for a $100 with a grip and your Ping adapter installed. I was talking to the golf manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods here and he has one in his driver and has nothing but good things to say about it. I thought about getting one for my Paradym Triple Diamond to play it a little shorter, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
