What the [redacted], CBS?  I paid for an entire seat and you're only letting me use the edge?

I hope the interest in this thread isn't an indication of interest in the tournament this weekend or golf is probably in trouble. Yesterday was as good as golf gets in the post Tiger world.

I recorded the final round, but I heard the hack-out rough (the golf course) and the two-man race wasn't all that compelling.

I'm surprised to hear that ...the course produced a great leaderboard all week which IMO is pretty telling of a good/fair course. And yesterday saw a duel between (arguably) the two biggest names in the sport right now.

Obviously TGC tends to overhype things a bit, but a decent article from them on yesterday http://www.golfchannel.com/news/rex-hoggard/dj-spieth-duel-good-it-gets

I (sadly) haven't watched much non-major tournaments in the past few years.  For what it's worth, I saw the second nine for Jordan and Dustin.  I had planned to keep it in the background but I found myself focusing on it instead.  How it compares to many other events in the past few years I don't know.

It was like match play for the last 9, I thought it was very entertaining.  This one was great to have recorded so as to use fast forward and skip forward.  Jordan was slow on almost all his shots, Dustin, although fast enough for his irons and woods, he was slow at reading putts.  And, there were a lot of advertisements.

This is going to be unpopular, getting ready to duck, but I'm thinking about Augusta 2018. What happens in between the PGA and April next year is... eh. The only interesting thing to me now is developing players who have to potential to win majors in the coming years. And the mid am.

Speef should be put on the clock from the first hole on.

He really does need to pick up the pace. I like him and all, but he's got to get better.

There were a couple times yesterday where it seemed liked DJ hit his approach shot less than five seconds after Spieth finished hitting. Maybe a passive aggressive way of telling Spieth to hurry up.

Easily the most exciting end to a non major tournament this year, and both of them were hitting heroic shots/putts leading into the playoff.  I can't remember the last time I saw the top two guys sinking ~20 footers, do or die, back to back, to lead into a playoff.

I like how some players on twitter are so incredibly salty over the playoff hole selection favoring DJ.

Quit yapping and hit the ball further.

Imo the playoff was very entertaining.

Aren't playoff holes typically already decided before the tournament starts? I could be wrong, I don't know that I've seen too many playoffs but they always seemed to know what the holes played would be well before the end of regulation play. Usually they replay 18 by default right?

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
