I'm all in on the 256GB iPhone X in space gray. $1149 is a tad more than I'd like to pay, but worth it.

In my bag:

I'm trying to figure out if I want an X. Initially I'm underwhelmed, but I'm slow on the uptake. Thought the don't have to pay to upgrade your HD movies to 4K was a pretty big deal, plus the lower pricing on 4K movies. Now tempted to get an ATV, lol, already have multiple Fire TVs, Chromecasts and a Roku.

This guy on the ATV, lol.

I don't really care about it.

Just another bill to pay, and for very little added benefit (to me). My phone is just always with me, and there aren't really times I wish I could have my watch but not have my phone.

But, I don't swim in the open water for my workouts or anything, so… whatever.

I've never felt that need. If I don't want to look at my phone, I don't. It's just in my pocket (or bookbag, or the pocket of my golf bag, or whatever…).

?

I've been using Apple Pay on my Apple Watch for years. I have a Series 0. I think that was in watchOS 1. 2 for sure.

$1-$1.1k.

And the battery life is 2 hours more than the 7, they say.

Yeah, I don't get the watch love. I've never felt my phone is just some massive burden to carry around, and yet at any time I can do a lot more with it than I ever can on a watch.

I'm a minimalist at heart so the appeal of leaving without a phone is strong. I can also think of a few situations where I would definitely be thankful for the cell connection.

1) When I leave the house to go on a run and leave the kids home alone. I need to be reachable by them but I don't want to lug my phone with me on the run.

2) At the gym. The locker is too far for Bluetooth connection and I don't want to carry my phone around the gym.

3) The pool / beach with the kids. I usually either leave my phone in the hot car or bring it but worry about it getting stolen from a beach chair / bag etc.

4) Amusement parks. My kids and I go a few days a year. Riding rollercoasters with my phone in just about any pocket poses various discomforts or concerns it'll get loose. Better to not worry at all.

5) Work meetings. I hate having my phone in my pocket. My meetings are often out of Bluetooth range of my desk and it is frowned upon to have your phone on the conference room tables during meetings.

6) Sporting events. I often attend sporting events in downtown Detroit. These involve long walks from the car in sketchy neighborhoods. I'd rather not leave my phone in the car nor do I want to walk around town with $1000 computer in my pocket.

The watch with cell solves each of these problems for me. Well enough to invest the extra $150 so long as the additional line charge is reasonable.

As for paying with the watch, I was referring to the lack of enough places accepting Apple Pay that leaving home without a wallet isn't yet feasible in most situations.

They did say that the watch will use the same number as your phone.  I'm sure it will have some sort of monthly charge, but maybe not.  Verizon will probably find a way to charge the user though...

It'll probably be the same $10 they charge you to add an iPad or other tablet with LTE.

I'm not interested in an Apple Watch with LTE, but the $250 price for the Series 1 would be mighty appealing if I weren't already planning to shell out over $1000 for a new phone.

They said they worked out special pricing with major carriers for the initial pricing.

So it is going to be an extra monthly cost.

And @Braivo, that's a good list. There aren't many of those situations where I'm not completely comfortable having my phone with me. It's uncomfortable in your pocket? It isn't for me. So the list is why it matters to you and doesn't matter much at all to me. :-)

I set an alarm for 3am and ordered the Apple Watch 3. Smooth process using the Apple Store app.

iPhone 8s are still available for September 22 delivery right now. At 8:15am.

Oh, and $649 for the 42mm stainless with cellular, ouch.

Many have said the aluminum is the best anyway. The taptic engine seems to work a bit better on those. But who knows… that was Series 0.

I just don't see how the 8s will sell. You can get a discounted 7 for several hundred less with many of the same features or spring for the fully loaded X for a few hundred bucks more.

I actually cancelled my watch order this morning. My practical side took over and realized I don't need to be spending $600+ ($400 + $10 per month) over the next two years on the watch with cellular. Not yet, anyway, I have other more important financial priorities.

It'll do okay, because people will not want to buy a used 7. They'll go in the store, and see that they can get a phone for $699 or $799 or whatever, and the next one costs $999.

The 8 is a pretty compelling upgrade over the 7. Lots of new or greatly improved features. Apple knew it HAD to be compelling, though, and it is.

Okay, but what's that got to do with the September 12 event, @nevets88?

iPhone 8 will be on display in stores tomorrow. Also ATP podcast and their food talk, thought I'd post it. :-D

I upgraded to iOS 11 on both my iPad (the 2017 plan ol' iPad) and my iPhone 6. After a day or two of running hot and sluggish, the iPhone is actually much snappier than I expected it to be at this stage in its life. I like most of the changes, including the visual ones. I still haven't really found the best way to use the new Podcasts app (ugh), and I'm running into some weird behavior with email notifications (when they pop up on the lock screen I can mark one as read, but then the rest disappear from the lock screen). Other than that I'm enjoying it. I particularly like the pull up keyboard feature on the iPad.

I agree. The phone looks like it is running faster. If not faster, then it feels like things run smoother. I wonder if making the GUI to run more consistent makes the phone look like it is running faster. Like if you hide the load screens in video games, it makes it feel like its running faster.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
