Collapse on the last hole of the US Open and make a double bogey to lose by one, or be the leader at the start and shoot a final round 85.

i would rather shoot the 85. At least then I was out by the back nine and could write it off as not my day. Less heartbreaking

Double bogey. I'd make more money. ;-)

I voted for a, because I finished in second place. An 85 is gonna move me WAY back in the pack.

I'd take the 85, though, if I led by 20.

Double bogey. Better to have loved and lost, as they say.

You can make a pretty good career out of finishing second. Plus second place pays better than third!

But leading and then shooting 85 means you'd be in the last group, and have all the commentators talking all day long about how bad you were playing, and how you'd get over it, and how you'd learn from it, and all that other crapicola they say to make it sound like there's some silver lining when really there isn't.  The camera would be focusing on your downcast face right up until the very end at 7:30 at night.

Plus, the 2nd place money is much better than "85" money.

Second place by a long shot.

IIRC, as Rory collapsed in the final round of the Masters, they stopped showing him on TV when his score became irrelevant. They'd bring it up once in a while just to explain to viewers how he's not at the top of the leaderboard, but that was pretty much it. He just kind of disappeared.

Anyway it doesn't matter what the commentators would say because I'd be playing in the tournament, not watching it.

I am with everyone else.  Beyond the money, invite next year, and all, I want to be in the "mix", even if it means heartbreak.  Give me a chance to crash & burn or win on the last hole.

My feelings exactly! I'd want to be in it to the end! Kinda sounds like Phil at Winged Foot doesn't it?

Double the last. At least I would be on TV and have Mr. Miller (aka Captain Obvious) telling me about all the things I did wrong.

I voted for double-b / lose by one.

The thought of playing 72 holes with only one or two double-bogies is exhilarating!
