I don't post much, but I've been pondering this one for two weeks.  On a dog leg right par four I smoked a drive over the hazard and my ball landed on the Fringe of the green, quite possibly the best drive I've ever hit.  I went to see if my ball had made it and saw that it was on the fringe. I waived my playing partner on so he could hit his shot and his pitch hit my ball knocking to about three feet from the hole.  I was able to sink the putt for my first eagle, woohoo!!! Was this a legitimate eagle?

If you made two, on a par-4, then yes, it's an eagle.

My understanding is that your ball should have been replaced, to the fringe of the green, and you should have putted from there.

David is wrong in your case.  The rules required you to replace your ball as closely as possible to where it lay on the fringe and play from there.  If you want be totally by the rules, you played from a wrong place and incurred a 2 stroke penalty.  If the committee was to determine that you gained a significant advantage by your error, you would be subject to disqualification.

Congrats on the great drive, but it wasn't an eagle.

Of course, @Fourputt and @arab_joe are right.  I misread the question.  My apologies.
