Hideki should get four strokes there.

1-2/8

He knew the ball was coming back to that area.

Should have been a penalty. PGA Tour pusses out. He was not “solely” caring for the course and he knew the ball was coming back to that area.

Bullshit. Just say “no intent” even if you demonstrated intent and get out of it.

Just watched TWs highlights from today. Stellar driving and chipping. Some serious ball speed numbers. Looked so much relaxed and smoother too. Some interesting unforced errors with short irons, but nothing major.

Excited for the weekend..

Oh, you weren't suggesting in the previous post that he should get handicap strokes and get to post a net score.

LOL.  The way Hoffman's playing, that might be necessary for the rest. :)

Here is an article with more details on what Erik is actually talking about: https://www.golfdigest.com/story/hideki-matsuyama-cleared-of-potential-four-stroke-penalty-at-hero-world-challenge?mbid=social_facebook

Quote

NEW PROVIDENCE, Bahamas -- Hideki Matsuyama, the defending champion, was cleared of a possible four-stroke penalty on the 18th hole Friday at the Hero World Challenge, after he tamped down his divot as his ball rolled back toward his feet following a chip shot that came up short of the green on the final hole.

“[He] didn’t have any intent to improve,” said PGA Tour Vice President of Rules and Competition Mark Russell. “He said he was not even really conscious that he did that. His intent was not to improve [the conditions] coming back there and the ball didn’t come to rest in that spot.”

Quote

Added Golf Channel’s Curt Byrum: “All of it comes right down to what the participant tells the official, whether or not he meant to enhance the lie or not. They ask it a sure manner, so it’s what it is. Not intent, only a response apparently by Matsuyama.”

Watching recording so I was behind. @iacas 100% correct. It was clearly obvious he was improving his lie in case the ball came back to his divot. Total BS on that one. Should get +4.

@MuniGrit, whaddya think?

Some pretty darn good short game shots today too.

I only saw his first 5 holes but I'm guessing he played pretty well. He was on fire when I was watching.

Speaking of Golf Channel they no longer allow comments, can anybody confirm that?

The app does. You mean the on-show comments?

Yeah, you got me there.  Some transcription boo boo I assume because that sentence is jibberish.

Yup, it was a transcription error ... I’m having trouble uploading a video because it’s too big.  But for the line in question, he actually said “they ask it a certain way” and he pauses and says “it is what it is.”  If you could hear his tone and read between the lines I believe what Curt is doing is very politely disagreeing with the ruling.

Pretty good stuff from Tiger the first two rounds. I was mostly worried he would start wincing and have pain again, but the way he's swinging it, he seems pretty healthy.

I never doubted he would play well when returning. Even with this many years of struggle and injuries, his record says a lot about how good of a golfer he really is. Every time he returns he's a force to be reckoned with.

If he just stays healthy now, 2018 could be a very fun year. Sure, he's past 40 and he's been away almost a year, but these last two rounds shows he's definitely able to win. The young guys makes it interesting, but Tiger is Tiger.

Agree. He looked right at it and stomped it down. Villegas got DQ'd four or five years ago for the same thing and he looked like he was just mad from chunking the shot. The rule changed since then, but Hideki should have been penalized.

Tiger would have never heard the end of it if he'd done it...  Phan would be here pouring gas...

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
