Day 179 - August 1, 2018 - Hit some shorter chip shots off some soggy turf which really makes you focus on making good contact even if the little splash occurs afterward.

Day 59.  Did you know Jim Furyk, mentioned yesterday, once also shot a 59?  When he was in high school, he quit his school's baseball team to focus on golf.  His baseball coach cautioned him, however, saying he's not good enough to play on the PGA Tour.  Furyk responded that this was why he needed the additional time and focus to practice.

I obviously have room for improvement, without quite the same lofty goal as Furyk.  I spent 30 minutes pitching from 15-20 yards today, with mixed results;  some snap fades even.  This is frightening as I have 4-5 rounds planned in the next 10 days!  However, I did hit the range and hit those shots pretty well, even got video that I'll send to evolvr later tonight.  I closed with some putting (I had only 10 minutes before I had to leave), nailing 5 in a row from 6' (different directions) and sinking a few nine footers too (and missing more than my fair share at that distance).

I hate reporting short game stuff that I didn't measure, so I'll go back to drills on Friday (playing tomorrow).  I will also end the "you are subscribed to Jim Furyk facts" portion of my practice log, but on days 58 and 59, I felt like making more fun reports.  I hope you enjoyed too.

Day 28 -- my red letter day!

Worked a lot on 5SK #2 and beginning to feel as if I am beginning to feel much better in terms of moving the hips and getting more leg in both backswing and down swing. Still inconsistent if I don't take time to think first. But feels better each day this week.  Combined with focus #1, much better over all.  Will move on to #3 by end of next week if first 2 are deemed well on the way.

Day 213

Played another 18 this morning, shooting another 80. My previous practice regimines are keeping me going, stamina wise.

This was my 4th, 18 hole round in 3 days, and I am happily playing consistent golf. I am holding my own with some of the youngsters (50 year olds). I think the heat might be getting to them....lol

DAY 253   Had a lesson this morning.... after the completion of my full swing evaluation/assessment using Foresight, video and test of ability to make various shots.   Now we have a Blueprint of things to work toward over the next two months on my full swing.   Spent the next hour doing drills assigned from the lesson.   Then played 9 holes... hit 6/7 FIR, 6/9 GIR, 17 putts for two over par 38!!   Then back to the range for 45 minutes to continue to work on the full swing drills.    A comment on my putting.... I had 6 birdie putts, and 5 were short of the hole.....  if I could have gotten all of them to the hole, I would have made 3 birdies!!!!  I am always short!!!!!

Day 60.  Zach Johnson was the first player in PGA Tour history to have two rounds under 61 in his career.  Both were 60s.  My round today wasn't a 60.  In fact, it was a 90.  I had a 9 on the first hole:  snap-faded my approach, went over the #2 tee, hit my next shot O.B., and so on.  An 86 would have been my handicap, so if I had bogeyed that hole instead of a 9, I'd have played to my handicap.  Somehow this makes me optimistic.

I somehow hit only 2 GIR and I think 7 or 8 near-GIR.  I also hit two greens with full swings, and I had three chips where it felt like I had forgotten how to chip, plus another three that resulted in tap-ins.  Not that this is meaningful, but I also had no three-putts today. GG and analysis will come later.

Day 4.

Another day at the range.  Felt I was pressing too much making the perfect the enemy of the good.  I think I'm getting more accustomed to having the clubhead bisecting or nearly bisecting my hands at A2.  The shortening of the backswing, however, is taking more time.

Day 9

Went to the putting green between rain storms.

Worked on long putts 30-40 ft and 6-10 footers. Took one ball from 30+ feet and tried to 2 putt on several holes.

Hit some pitches out of the wet rough from 10-20 yards.

Day 60 part 2.  Went to the range to work on iron striking.  Also did speedstick drills.  And then pitching (9/10 were good, couldn't judge distance).  Then I went to the chipping area and was continuing to hit poor chips -- and then I realized I was swinging all arms.  I started moving around a bit like the base of a swing and I was hitting them much better.  At some point I should look up if this is actually proper technique but at least it was shots that went more or less as far as I wanted and more or less the direction I wanted -- a big improvement over the 15 yard version of a snap fade.

Day 16:

Went to the range with the intent of working on hybrids, but after a few swings I could tell things were off. Went back to my fundamentals and discovered my flaws (set up issues), and started hitting great shots again. Hit PW, 7I, 4H, and then finished with some partial wedge shots.

Day 29:

A round at a 9 hole shorter executive curse.  Did not keep score due to many course problems after a wind storm from yesterday evening.  Sill, used this round to see how well I could put it together from a week of practice at the DR.  I was happy with my wedge work and use of 8i off of the tee.  Putting was a challenge due to the amount of junk on the greens, I even 4 putted a green for my worst hole of the year though I was on in regulation.  Spending time back at the DR to solidify my wedges.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
