Day 495 - June 12, 2019 - Had some time on the range at CHQ today. Worked on drivers at the end, started with drills, and did some full, punch, and 3/4 type swings in the middle. Messed with a slight tweak to the "trigger" and a little tempo work (just a bit slower, but not a LOT slower).

Day 41.  After work, a dozen SLOW (and I kept it slow) swings exaggerating my priority piece.  Indoors, off a mat, into a net, real balls.  Also did a few swings with the medicine ball as per the LSW drill.

I have noticed it takes more discipline, I think, to swing slow indoors when I can just go pick up more balls than it does outdoors when I pay by the ball.

Day 4:

Putting practice today. Did the three ball no "three putt" drill. Last time I just did 30,40, and 50 feet from a fairly flat lie. Today I did the same distances from an Uphill Putt and again from a Downhill putt. The goal is for three balls at same hole and no three putts.   My scores were:

Uphill- 4,2,1 attempts respectively

Downhill- 1,1,6 attempts respectively

Struggled with uphill putts at first, and significantly with the longer downhills. However, I actually controlled stance within 10% just couldn't make three short putts in a row 😕

DAY 570    Got out early and still got chased in by rain.  I was able to work for about an hour on the range, working through the drills to improving my rotation on my backswing and initiation of my downswing.  Range chased me in.   Hung out until it cleared, then back out to practice some more.....however, after hitting 5 balls the rains were too much.  Called it a day.

Day 525. Played 18 holes today. Started out just to practice, but saw some friendlies on the first tee, and made myself at home.

Shot an 80 (41/39)) with 29 putts. Happy with the 80, but sure would have liked to have made that 5' foot birdy putt for a 79.

Paid a little more attention to my full swing grip today. It's one of the important things I neglect to much. Made sure my "Vs" were pointed correctly, and thumbs were in good shape on the shaft. May have saved myself a stroke or two.

Day 42.  Worked from home today and watched the U.S. Open coverage (no, that isn't my practice for the day, it's just context).  I snuck up to my golf room on a few occasions to hit iron shots, same as yesterday's routine.  Slow swings, indoors, off a mat, into a net, real balls (at least for the ones that weren't rehearsals).

Day 346:

It was a little cooler (only 85º) in the AM, so I decided to work at the range was long as I could, needed to have a day where I could take a lot more full swings.  I was able to land myself at one of the bays that had bot a fan and a mister.

I started with a long warm up of physical type activities to get the body moving, scudding a rather long time with the Orange Whip®. Finished a little tight but went at it.

Used the 50º to warm up. I was fairly happy. I moved on to my irons, 9i, 7i and 7i in that order.  Over all happy, but after those 3 felt a bit tight in my shoulders, perhaps from not fully swinging this week.

Moved on to the hybrids.  The 3h was the best of the three.  Nice flow, loft and direction.  While the other two were good, this was notably better.

All was not perfect Over all, while much was nice for not having taken full smites at the little round ball, I still hit more than a handful of awful shots, but the good thing was that I was able to figure out what went wrong and correct.

And, that is what I focused on for my practice.

Day 526 Hit a basket of balls on the range today. Went through my whole bag of 12 Irons, and a 4 wood.

Focuses were on set up, club face aim, an intermediate target, and ball position in my stance.

Goal was to land each ball as close as possible to my chosen target

Most balls I hit off the turf, with a few more tee'd up.

Since these were range, banged up balls, with suspect ball flights, my intermediate target was,  what some golfers call the "goal posts" aim line. This is where I pick out two target poles about 50/60 yards or so in front of me. The actual target flag will, in most cases, be farther down range.  All I want to see is the ball flying between the "goal posts". What ever the range ball does after clearing the goal posts,  is not a big deal to me. I never expect range balls to fly like my e7 gamers. That said, most of today's range balls flew pretty well.

DAY 571    Humid, humid, humid......   Hit short wedges for 5 to 25 yards off the green to the pin... lots of different slopes, over a steep bunker, ... all as part of a process to move from strictly technique to more golf course like situations.  After more than 90 minutes of practicing, I head out to play 9 holes.  Hit 6/9 greens, however, did not get up and down one time.  Two of the greens I missed, I hit well contacted short pitch shots, I just did not have decent distance control.    Sounds sad, when you read it, however, it is great progress for me.   In the past when I missed a green, more than 50% of the time it resulted in a double bogey, as I bladed or chunked the shot to the green.

Day 5:

Hit hybrids today. Backyard session with foam balls. Hit the ball solidly for the most part but got under a few that were sitting up pretty high in the grass. Just wanted some faster swings today.

DAY 347:

I had a better day than yesterday.  Heat was 83º at start (8:15 am), 91º one hour later.

Today focused on off the tee.  Both my GX-7 snd Ping G5  got good loft and distance.  Directions was a question at time as there was a good whirling wind affecting the shots of I got too much loft.  Then it was a bit of guess as to final resting place.  I adjusted to a slightly lower tee. And using my 5h as an off the tee weapon kept6 it lower while having to sacrifice a few yards.

Swings felt good and I worked, as well, on increasing the turn of my hips to the right.  Mixed results, but things seemed in the right direction.

I also worked with a slower and more focused back swing.  That made a big difference in keeping the club face from twisting around too much.

Day 43.  Made it to the practice facility today.  Range work, small bucket (grass, real balls, outdoors): slow swings, latest priority piece.  Got video too to see if I'm doing it right.  Did some chipping also and I think my chips are going further -- the only difference though is I have Pure grips instead of my old Golf Pride ones.  Am I supposed to hit chips further after a regrip?  Also did some putting, 12-15' focusing on getting them to the hole.

Day 55 (forgot to post yesterday): Worked on my putting bead with the yardstick drill.

Day 56: Went to the driving range. Spent about 40 minutes hitting balls, just focused on solid contact and replicating my feels for a tournament tomorrow. Seemed to be pretty good. Then went to the putting green and worked on lag putts for about half an hour and then short putts for about 10 minutes.

DAY 572    Slow day, so I stayed home and worked on my swing in my garage.... taking slow swing using balance discs to work on staying more balanced and centered, then my shortened 5 iron taking swings so that I am turning more into my right hip on the backswing, and into my left hip on the forward swing.

Day 527

Worked on approach shots up 60, or so yards. Target was a big, wide bodied palm tree about 90 yards a way.

Focuses were on set up, club face aim, club selection, and back swing lengths.

Goal was to land balls on, or near my target line to the palm tree. My aim line was not always the same as my target line, due to the various types of shots I was hitting.  The tree was never in danger, as I never hit any balls that far.

Didn't spend much time practicing today, as I am not near a golf course. This is a remodel, work weekend, out of town.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
