Day 63.  Today didn't go as planned, but I was still able to hit a dozen full swings with an 8-iron in my practice room (mat, into net, real balls, indoors).

Day 313

Just finished up on the DR in preparation to play a par 3 course.

Hit my 7W, 7i, 9i, AW, and SW.  Focus was on my preshot routine for alignment.  A one piece take away, and crisp contact on the ball with my 70% swing tempo.

The first green will tell me how well my putting will go to day.

Target score is 62. Then again, not sure there are actually 18 holes? I should probably know that...lol

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Day 121

First day I really felt well (physically) doing seriously full swings this week.

Worked my new 60º and felt good with the results up to 50 yards, again.  Great height with good results in getting close to the hole.  I suspect I would have been able to one putt from many of the stopping points.  I was not doing anything greater than a 3/4 swing.

Took full swings with a 3h.  Too many topped balls due to pulling my head up just a bit. Really worked to keep it down with a continuous turn of the hips.  Not sure why I could not just relax and swing through the ball better.  I did improve as I worked on the corrections.

7i and 7h were ok but not great, took a while to get both of them on track. Nice loft from both; but the 7i was a bit erratic in terms of directions.  Not wildly off, but just enough to make me focus on how open or closed the club was.

Day 57:

Played 18 today. My GG died 4 holes in, so no data. Drove the ball beautifully. Irons are still a mess. Putting and pitching came and went and then came back again.

Day 314

Just an easy 30 minutes of putting this morning.

Using one ball, focus was on reads, rolling the ball over my chosen line, and absolutely no 3 putts.

Day 122

Beautiful day to swing a club!!

Clear blue skies, no real wind, 66º.

Hit every club at least 6 times.  Added one for any serious flaw beyond a simple fade or push, to topped flight due to pulling my head up.  160 swings  over all.

Big thing, aside from taking care to continue to develop a pre-shot routine, was taking my time between shots, time between clubs.  I really worked on not rushing nor hitting the ball as hard as possible.  Result was greater distance and more on line.

The task today was to enjoy the weather, have fun, correct the "next shot", and not fret about the "last shot."

DAY 353     Out on the range at The Legacy Club for a couple of hours working on the same issues....  Key #1 Steady Head and Key #2 Weight Forward.   Also used the JetStick to continue my work on improving swing speed.  If my reports seem repetitive and boring, they are.. I am committed to fixing these issues..... which have plagued me for what seems like "forever!"

Tomorrow back at it again! :-)

Day 271 - November 11, 2018 - Hit a bunch of balls testing out and working with the SkyTrak. Then did another workout, after which my arms are pretty much useless. 😛

Day 64.  Missed yesterday, 11/10 (second miss in last 28 days).  Today I found ten minutes to hit 8-iron full swings, indoors, off a mat, into a net.

DAY 354     Rise and Grind... out by 7:30 a.m.  Spent 3 solid hours on the range working on Key #1 and Key #2.  Also used the JetStick to continue my work on improving my swing speed.  Then headed to the fitness center for an hour long Golf Specific Conditioning session... that kicked my butt!!!   Came home and took a nap!!! :-)  Maybe I should have gone for the flexibility session.

    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on. 😉 Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seem  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
