DAY 407   The afternoon weather was spectacular, so much so, there was no spaces at the range!!   So I spent 3 hours on the putting green with only 2 drills.   The first was setting up 5 tees around the hole at 3 feet.  The objective is to go around the hole twice without missing ... to do so you have to make 10 consecutive putts.  I did 3, then 4 and finally 5 feet.   Then spent the rest of the time on a game of 21... from 15-20-25 and 30 feet from the hole.  Most of my misses were a little short...(less than 6 inches)... just needed to get more to the hole.   Then came home and worked in the garage with my JetExpress Speed Drills.   Got to continue to improve my swing speed.

Day 175:

As planned, a day off the tee with Dr, 3w, 8i and 7i.

In terms of the physical hits, I was happy with results. All had most acceptable loft and good distance given the club used.  Dr was 210 or so, 3w: 195, 8i: 180, and 7i: 170.  About what I was expecting.  With all of the clubs I got nice roll of between 20-35 yards.  In these regards, I could not have expected more, given the time away from doing full hits.

Lately, with these clubs, I have gone from the infamous amateur slice to a bit of a push draw. and about 20% ofnthe shots today showed that tendency. While I think I would have gotten away with almost all the bad swings on the courses I play the most, given the three somewhat narrower fairways I will be playing this month, I could be in trouble.  I have checked into the known causes of such a left lean.  What I feel is that either I need to make sure the club is not too open nor have I gone to a misdirection of swing.  I have a lesson tomorrow and will see if it is one factor or the other or a combination of those, or even additional faults. (It's like the old Bob Hope joke of "What is the worst part of your game"?  "Me playing!"). My pro thinks it may as well be a creeping factor of now overcompensating for my previously textbook slice!  Time to make sure physical aspects are synced.)

I also worked with a mental factor today.  I was imagining myself on the first tee of my most played course: 440 par 4 very slight left turn at the end.  So the concept was to play a drive to leave myself with a strong shot to make the green in 3. (For me, that would be good.). What is difficult is to get to the tee ready to get a good solid drive.  Often on first tees, there is psychological pressure to show how great you are on that first stroke of the day.  Often I hit a very fat shot or make an unsigneled right turn when I do that.  So I took my time to go through my best pre-shot routines, take some sold pre-swings, and a good deep breath.  And for the most part, to trust my swing and not push to make it extend beyond what I normally hit at the range.  Not perfect in terms of today's results but I never felt I needed to impress anybody.

Day 93, January 7

Mirror work at the gym. Warmed up with stretches and single arm swings. Then focus on head at set up, centered hip turn and pitch elbow from A4 to A6. Starting to make a bit of progress changing the picture.

DAY 407    Grinding it out for 4 hours today.   Spent 90 % of the time focusing on the three positions in the backswing (using the ideas from Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy where I took lessons for four years)  .... the remainder of the time on getting onto my left side.  Hit the ball very well today during all the drills.  Progress on the range!  The course (s) are still too busy with all the snowbirds....  but I WILL get out tomorrow to play at least 9 holes.

Day 371

My 5 minute practice challenge took me 4 hours today.

Played 22 holes, in less than decent weather. Carded a 98 for those 22 holes.

Used mostly metal woods due the wet turf. Played to my normal average

It was chilly, but fun.

Day 22:

Hit mainly 7Iron today at the range. I struggled greatly with shanks and bad heel slices. Distance from the ball didn't help consistently today, though sporadically I would hit really high straight shots like 5 in a row at a time. Strange.

Day 176

Basically a day to work on a few specific items from the last two ring days.

One was keeping an eye on on some of my directional worries on the hits off of the tee.  It seems to be first of all, not that big of a problem.  Yes, I am within a very limited arc.  About 7-10 yards off of a true line of the target an Top Track says it is no more than 6 yards.  So I relaxed today and simply hit the ball and let it go where it needed to go.

Secondly, I spent a bit of my practice on getting a more predictable direction off of my 50º wedge.  I basically had to rethink my positions of the line I was taking.  I don't aim at the flag, more of a zone approach all in all, but  even with that approach, I still hit to the left almost every time.  Some improvement as the day went on, but still not as regular as I would like.

Day 87: Decided to go back to pitching work today after it wasn't the best when I did it the other day. Working on set up and making sure the bottom of the pitch is in the right spot. Mostly need to focus on keeping my head more still while pitching, I've figured out.

Day 7, 7 Jan

a shorter session today due to work and ill health. 10 minutes of putting at distance of 12 ft. Really concentrating on a straight take away and steady motion through the ball. It felt good and amazingly I putted 9-in-a-Row.

Day 372

Hit a variety of shots this morning on the driving range, using various clubs. Mostly what I conssider "approach" shots.  Next to my putting, approach shots are a close #2 in importance for my own game.

Although I used the range flags to acquire my target line, and then my intermeadiate target spot in front of the ball, (which I use for club face alignment) my goal was to land the ball near the area of that targeted flag.

Other parts of today's practice included my preshot routine, and my one piece take away.

All balls were hit off the turf.

Basically today, I was just reminding myself what to expect from various clubs vs various distances vs body alignments, vs club face aims.

These days I practice shots I see when playing for a score. Doing this gives me familiarity with those shots. This familiarity gives me comfort. That comfort, relaxes me, and playing relaxed golf, usually means playing good golf.

Day 94, January 8

Mirror work at the gym hitting foam balls into a pup net. All partial swings with focus on my head position at set up and pitch elbow feel from A4 to A6.

Followed with golf specific core workout with resistance bands and some upper body weights from my PT last year. I do them to maintain.

DAY 409   Yes, I know there was no Day 408, however, there were TWO Day 407s!!  Yikes I need help!!    Okay, back at the range again today for more than 3 hours.   Exhausted and came home.  However, worked with my JetStick as part of my swing speed improvement program, and also worked on Swing Positions #1-3, then several motion drills like hitting with Feet Together, Feet Wide Apart, Right Foot Back, Step Through Drill, etc. etc.   I also enjoy swinging the Orange Whip to help with tempo and stretching -- I do this after about every 20 balls.  Came home and worked in the garage for 20 minutes on my swing speed improvement program using the Soul Shaker, and Black Mamba.    Had hoped and planned to go play 9 holes today... but didn't!! :-(
