Day 412

Nice easy morning on the driving range, just hitting balls again.

1/4-1/2-3/4 and full swings using various clubs, and targeted landing areas.

The routine was simple. I would pick a club at random. Pick the back swing I wanted to use. Match the swing yardage up with that club. Then pick a target. Using my abbreviated preshot routine, I would step into my stance, and hit the ball.

After that I would clean my club, put it back in my bag, and pull another one .

"Easy Peasy", as the young caddy said.

A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Day 220:

Well, the back is about 70% better, so I felt very comfortable working with my 60º to spend some time on both the loft of the shot and direction. Most of the shots were 50 yards out and the green is a rather wide and a bit narrow.  That gave me a lot of "green" to work with.

I still am working on better aim.  I have been able to do well landing it on on the green, as I am able to do just as well in rounds.

Now, I would love to get the shots to die a bit closer to the pin.

I do not use the pin as my target, rater I make a mental target area near the pin.

Today, most fell well within my 10' first goal and many had slight rolls to within 8'-6'.  Not perfect, but this is the first day I really concentrated on drop and roll.  I could do better. but for a first really effort on making the lob shots better, I walked away after 30 shots, feeling fairly satisfied.

Day 2 - Slow motion swings at home for 15 minutes.

I split it into 5 minutes of wedge with a focus on grip and clubhead angle, 5 minutes of six iron focusing on backswing and 'loading', and five minutes of driver focusing on finishing pose keeping my head on the T.

It helps my muscle memory and relax during the actual fulls-speed swings.

After that I went to the gym for 20 minutes cardio and 20 minutes of lifting for back strength.

All between 6 am and 7:30 am, including breaks.

DAY 456   The LECOM Suncoast Classic a Web.com tour event is OVER and so are my responsibilities.... so back to long practices ... soon.  However, tonight all I can manage is my 5 minutes with my shorteded iron in my home office working on rotating versus swaying and a better job of internally rotating my right shoulder as I move through the early part of my downswing.

Day 413

Indoor carpet stuff this morning. Putting and and a few chips. No big deal. Just something everyday with a golf club.

Had a dusting of snow overnight. I am staying inside, warm this am. We desert rats don't do snow. Dusting, or other wise.

Perhaps later I will venture out to the course later. .

Day 3 - Golf simulator, 9 holes

It is snowing heavily, therefore the driving range closed.
I played a round of 9 holes and chose the fairway wood (FW) with lighter swings in situations that normally require a long iron. I needed to practice my FW accuracy.

Day 221:

I spent today adjusting to a re-shafted 3h.  It is a Karsten 3h which came with a regular shaft; I was not able to get ball speeds comparable to the other hybrids in my arsenal. Now all my my hybrids are senior flex and there is a lot more consistency in terms of ball speed for all 3 of my Ping Hybrids.

I spent about 40 swats all in all to work on loft, distance, and direction off of the turf.  I finally got the 3h to be the one with greater distances of the three and, at least for today, I was tallying a perfect 7-10 yards gap between each of the hybrids I hit.  Still hitting a bit too much of a draw on all of the shots.  We'll focus on that the next sessions.

Back get good, even with the cooler temps of the day.  Next few days will be quite cool by AZ standards.  So, I suspect I will shift some of my work to that which I can do indoors.

Day 414

More indoor carpet putting this am. Just too cold to venture out side. I'd have to layer up to stay warm, which would squash any positive practice routines.

Worked on rolling the ball over a dime, a foot, or so in front of the ball. This to simulate hitting a straight putt, on a chosen line.

Me, and the guys have a 10:30 tee time. Should be a lot warmer by then.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
