Day 367

Started out this morning's golf trials by watching one of my favorite golf instructional dvds. "Bad Golf Made Easier" with Leslie Nielson. I believe the video is also on You Tube if want to watch it. Lot of good stuff on how to make the rules of golf work for you, instead of against you.

After that, was some warm up time on the driving range in preperation for a 10:45 tee time in a senior tourney. .

Went through most of my bag. Focus was just on warming up, to hopefully get off to good start today.

We are in the first tee line up as I post this. Should be a great day, no matter the out come.

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Day 89, January 3

Mirror work at the gym. Focused on head position at set up per my latest Evolvr lesson. It was a bit too far forward. Also worked on pitch elbow and turning through impact. I hope to hit balls at home if it doesn't get too dark.

DAY 404     Spent a couple hours at the range, but was too tired to do more.  I worked through a series of 7 drills that focus on positions in the swing from Set-up to Follow-through. These come from the book, "Train for Golf Like an Olympian"

After showering and lunch, I headed to my monthly hour long workshop on the mental aspects of golf taught by Bill Nelson of the Mind Management Academy.  This is the 5th session of his that I have attended.  Among other things discussed was the video below about the mental side of Tiger Woods golf.  It is 5 minutes long and has LOTS of useful insights.

Day 172:

A basic travel day back home after visiting my brother.  So limited to using the Orange Whip® at rest stops and upon arrival back home. The 15 minutes at each stop to concentrate on the tempo of backswing and the feeling of the shift of weight on the downswing.  Can't wait to use the whip to set a tempo model for me to follow both with the driver and a mid iron, such as my 6i.  A week of just the whip needs to translate now to the club in my hand.

Day 2.  Spent 20 minutes hitting over three dozen quarter swings with a 56 degree wedge in my practice room (indoors, off a mat, into a net).  The goal was to feel the contact, not fat contact, not thin contact.

Day 4, January 4:

30 min rotating putting setup changes along with steady head and slow mo backswing feels for the full swing. Same stuff, working on keeping the club narrow early in the backswing and right tricep touching side to shorten the backswing.  Will read some lowest score wins later.

Day 368

Just some indoor putting this morning as it is still below freezing out side.

My usual regimine of rolling the ball over a coin, 18+/- inches in front of the ball. This too simulate hitting a straight putt on my chosen line. I enhance this practice by leaving the coin stationary, and rolling balls over it from different directions.

Plans are for our normal crew to get together, and play 18 holes later today

DAY 405    The weather was great!!  80 degrees in early January here in Sarasota, FL   I continued working on improving my swing speed using the JetStick from MACH 3, and working through the drills from pages 170-173 of "Train For Golf Like an Olympian."  There are 19 different drills, which takes a little over 3 hours to complete.  The drills focus on Positions in the Swing, Club Awareness and Improving Your Swing Motion.  In between drills I swung my Orange Whip to improve my flexibility, and tempo and my sequencing.  I finished by hitting 20 drivers to a simulated fairway.  I was 17/20 in the fairway.... I missed a couple right and one I pulled.  Felt good but tired after being out there over 4 hours.

Day 4 - 4th January

just 30 minutes today. I set-up my golf plane practise aid and worked on my set-up, takeaway, arm / shoulder / club alignment at top of my swing, and dropping into slot on downswing. I initially did this for my 8, then removed the aid and hit shots with my 5i and 3w using some principles. I felt like I accomplished something positive!

Day 19:

18 holes of pull back. 48 putts. Not sure what a good number is for a 20 capper, but a lot of room for improvement here. Will get back to my speed control drills.

Day 84: Went to the range and worked on my priority piece for about an hour. Looks pretty decent on video, although could be a little bit better I'm sure. There is definitely a difference in the picture since November, so that's really good!

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
