Day 60.  Third day of golf in a row, shot 91 at a tough course, not great, not poor.  Highlights include some awesome drives, some not awesome drives, some missed short putts, making a 40' bomb of a putt, making another putt from outside 8', and missing a green with a putter

I put the most shameful moment in another color.  I figure sunlight is a good disinfectant or something, and people should see this.

Day 544. Took my iron bag to the driving range this morning. 4W, and 2-lw semi hybrid irons.

Focus was just to get some swing exercise in. All shots had targets to aim at. Hit various shots. Regular full swings, punches, and lobs. Used an abbreviated pre shot routine, and paid attention to my one piece take away.

Goal was to land balls on, or near my targeted areas. Accuracy was not too bad for range balls, although I didn't pay much attention to distances. As long as the ball traveled close to my chosen target/aim line, I was happy.

Some balls were hit tee'd up, with most being hit off the turf. Turf was moist due previous watering, so I guarded against hitting fatties by hitting everything a little on the thin side.

Will be playing for a score a little later on today.

Day 23:

Another short day. went to the practice green on my break between meetings and got less than 10 minutes in before the skies unloaded on me. Sigh. Oh well I hit some really nice pitches/chips while I had the time.

Day 263, July 2

Played nine again at a local par 3 by myself. Took extra reps at sand on each hole if I could. Tried different tee shots and a couple holes. Focused on face position at setup too. Too square and I hit a high draw. Too open, straight push.  I am aiming to do in between.

DAY 589    Spent an hour on the range today working on staying more centered during my swing.... then headed out to the golf course.

I did this last year, when I first moved to Sarasota, and played at The River Club (since it was near where we were renting).  Now that we have moved into our new home, I am playing The Legacy Golf Club.   I am going to try the same thing this summer.  So what is the thing?  I have to play 5 consecutive 9 hole rounds from the most forward tees before I can move back a set of tees.  So I started today.  I played the front nine which is 2,366 yards in three under par.  So round 1 is covered!!

Since the course was empty, I played the back nine, but moved up a set of tees, since I have accomplished my goal for the day.  I played the back nine in even par, missing an 8 foot putt on the last hole for par.  Heat feels like was 105, with a little wind,   Will be back at it tomorrow to see if I can achieve another round of under par, and continue my journey to earn my way back to the "White tees".

Day 61.  25 balls at the range (took me over an hour), and I only had time at about 3pm, so it was the hottest part of the day too.  Slow swings, not trying to figure out what I was doing wrong last two rounds, but rather trying to do things right so I do them right when I play next.  Just a focus on the priority piece and the rest of the swing.

Day 264, July 3

Worked on my PP, hip turn through impact with driver and on today. Too hot to film it. Rehearsing the turn to impact, then doing slower swings to get the motion down.

Day 545. Played 18 holes at my 2nd home course. It's the more wide open one of the two I play locally. Most of my lower scores are carded here, due to it being wide open.

Shot a 78. 40/38 W/ 28 putts.

6600 yards, and perfect weather.

I played my Ironwood bag, while using my Rail Gun putter. Yes, the RG putter is legal to use.

Pretty darn happy with that score. Plus,  it followed up the 80 score I carded yesterday.

Might go again later today. When playing well, I figure I might as well enjoy the moment.

Day 24:

Good range day today. Worked my way through the bag to start, and then played some simulated holes. Had a slight case of the lefts today especially with the longer clubs. Was able to make some adjustments though.

DAY 590     Spent little over an hour on the putting green.  Did the 25 in a row from three feet drill, then 20 in a row inside this three foot circle from 20 feet and then 30 feet.  I never did complete it from 30 feet.   Then headed to the range where I worked on being more stable throughout the swing..... after about an hour the weather just wore me down, and the fact that it was so humid, that my 52 degree wedge flew out of my hands into the range!!!

DAY 364

Almost a full year (would have been if I had hit the enter key yesterday).

While Tuesday was more putt and pitch, I actually arose very early and got in 9.

In AZ, it is possible to tee off at 6:15, play 9 very quickly and still not be off the course before it reaches 90º. Today was such a day.  I was getting too tired of the heat getting to me.  So armed with my trusty arsenal and two large bottles of PowerAde Zero®, off I went to the shorter executive course.

Driver loved me on the 4 holes I used it.  These were the 4 par 4s. For most of the western world, a driver might seem a bit overkill.  But, for me, at 350+ yards, a driver gives me the best chance to be on the green, perhaps, in 2. The drives were all in the fairway and averaged 240 or so after the roll; GIR in 2 of the 4. I parred 3 of the 4 and single bogied the other.

Total putts were 17, no penalties and no OB.  Biggest problems came with the shot to the green on after the first shots.  Yes, I did the par 4s well but most of the par 3s were not on the green in 1.  Tended to over fly with my 5h off the tee or with my 7i.

I guess since I wanted to finish quickly, I rushed myself a lot, especially on the final 3.

Total was a 4 over 42, not bad all considered.

4th of July will be indoor work prior to picnic consumption.

Day 62.  Did yesterday help, did the day off of playing help, or am I just good at inopportune times?  Played 18 today from the forward tees (not the junior or too-forward tees;  about 6000 yards) with some friends.  Shot an 82, one off my personal best.

Day 546. Worked on my approach game up to 60-70 yards.

Focuses were on club selection, set up, club face aim, ball position, and my one piece take away.

Goal was to land the ball, on, or near the line to my target

Hit punch, flops, pitches, 3/4 , and 1/2 swing shots. .

It was a good morning .

DAY 591.   Short day.... heat index outside is 107. so I stayed indoors, and worked with my shortened club, and my balance discs.  Working to improve my centeredness and stability on my downswing.  Lots of reps in the setup I have in my garage.

Wishing all who read this a Happy 4th.

Day  63.  Played golf again, shot 87 (differential 15.5).  Hit 8 GIR, had a triple and two doubles during the round, plus two sixes on par-5s.  Also made birdie on a par-5 (not the same one I made birdie on last time I played this course).  I need to practice half shots;  yesterday and today I had a few that went really poorly.

I am incredibly happy I got my driving average over 200 today despite hitting two really bad drives.  To me, it means the good ones are that much better.

Day 365!!!!

It is nice that the community decided to help me mark this day with a fireworks display!  How nice of them!!

I marked this day with 30 minutes of 6' putts and some green side chips.

Then, I spent the rest of the day calling friends and family, watching a baseball game, and consuming hot dos and beer.

Have a wonderful 4th, everyone.

    • On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
    • You may be able to find a regular flex Blueboard on the second hand market. I’m little more than half your age so I swing a shaft that launches pretty low so I don’t have a lot of experience with Regular flex (other than when I try to hit it I miss way to the left).    There are other shafts, such as the newer Ping Alta that I’ve heard good things about. And one that no one talks about. The Jupiter shaft. You can get this shaft for a $100 with a grip and your Ping adapter installed. I was talking to the golf manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods here and he has one in his driver and has nothing but good things to say about it. I thought about getting one for my Paradym Triple Diamond to play it a little shorter, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

    • Meanwhile, another old Tour Edge guy switches to Callaway for this season. I have a different problem, course dependent set-ups. What I’m wondering is if @dragonsmhas the 8 iron set 5-PW, AW, GW or just 5-PW, GW. Because the PW is 42°, AW 47°, and GW 52°. Because that could potentially be a gap there. The 5-iron to 6-iron length jump is 5/8” instead of 1/2” so you should be careful of that.    @WUTiger the problem most people have with 3-woods is they don’t play them far enough back into their stance. And they usually don’t have enough loft and the shaft is too long. So 3HL, 4 or 5-wood is probably better for most golfers. I do the “Frankenwood” approach. I have both the 3+ and 5 woods. I typically will either add two degrees to the 3+ on 6600 yards or longer courses, or take a degree off the 5-wood on shorter courses than 6300 or so, and use the 5-wood shaft for both. I don’t usually find a situation where I need both the 3 and 5 wood on a course. I don’t play from 7000 yards it’s no fun. Edit: I mostly agree with @WUTiger on the gapping, although a lot of the newer even fixed hosel fairway woods are made better than what we had when we were playing the old Exotics XRails.
