"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge

Day 18:  Played a practice round at a very short forest preserve course in the city. 4500 yards, par 66, 62.2 rating, 92 slope.  I called it a practice round because I didn't take out the driver or 3 wood at all.  My intention was to basically take 2 approach shots on every hole.  Off the tee to a landing area which would get me to a full club length into the green.  I wanted to practice hitting greens basically.  I was pleased with my consistency with the mid irons.  6i down to pw was very good all morning.  A couple mishits low off the heel, but overall, Im pleased.  Problem was that from 100 yards in, I'm not good enough.  My wedges from 50-100 yards were consistently short, my short game didnt get close enough to the pin, and my putting isn't good enough to hit 15 foot putts.  This certainly is not a surprise.  And from a strokes gained perspective, I played essentially exactly what my handicap expects. Just that in this environment, on a short course, where I took away any advantage I had with length, my game from 100 yards in was really exposed.  Need to start working in a day a week of short game practice.

Day 27:

Long practice session hitting into the net. Mostly did the pump drill from day 5 of the covid practice plan. Quite a few shanks and mishits at first (not that I mind) but as soon as I was really whipping the left hip around and back the clubface began to square itself which resulted in some really solid contact.

Day 229

Played 18 in pea soup fog this morning. Didn’t go well so quickly became an on course practice session.

Short game and putting was solid. Couldn’t really see ball flight, there were no visible landmarks to choose a target line, and the flag/green wasn’t visible outside 75 yards, but I didn’t hit the ball great.

Been working so hard on hip/core rotation that I think my backswing is getting sloppy.

Dear Diary,

On Day 39, I played golf, but that might be a generous description of what I did today.  It was the sort of round where I promise the people I'm playing with that I have played golf before, really!  :-(  Looking forward to Wednesday.

Day 66 - Home from my golf weekend, had a great time. Played the final 18 today, putting was atrocious. The greens were in rough shape, but I should’ve done a better job adjusting to the speed.

Day 19:  Went to range to work on driver.  Don't think I was particularly effective.  Didn't have a great plan other than setting up with the stance i believe i'm learning from Hogan's Five Lessons.  But I just ended up swinging too much, too hard.  Not sure I'm actually better for it.  Came home and did putting drills.  Gate drills and Perfect Putt PuttOut drill.
